2018 Silverado HD DRW 3500
Here's the situation. Traveling about 75mph a few days ago with cruise on and the truck began to progressively start shaking to the pointI had to hold the wheel with both hands in order to control it. Thinking I blew a tire I slowly pulled to the side of the highway. And to my surprise all 6 tires were fine. I limped it (35mph) to next off ramp where it still shook as I drove it. Once safely in parking lot, I crawled underneath to check front end components. Smell of burnt brakes and high heat coming from front wheel wells. As if I was riding the brakes the entire time. Rotors had a nice purple hue to them. Truck would not move In Gear at idle speed. Spun rear wheels like I was doing burnt out in fact when I push gas pedal. Then the dash lights up with all the stabilitrak, TCS and trailer brake errors that we all see randomly and at SMOG checks. Mashed on brake pedal about 30 times and finally the brakes released aand the truck rolls at idle in gear now. Still had it towed to dealership. Been 5 days. The response from them, No Problem Found. No more codes found. What would You do now if this happened to you? Any relation to a faulty ECBM module or software? Has anyone heard of something like this? 49k miles with extended warranty to 100k.
update....
Went to the dealership after I posted this to test drive the truck myself since staffing levels here at Findlay Chevrolet In Vegas are apparently pretty low. The Service writer handling the claim wanted to put a decent amount of miles on the truck to see if we could recreate the problem since the Tech could'nt find anything. So, I left work early and did the test drive myself. First ten miles were symptom free. Truck seemed fine. I got the speed unto 75mph then braked a few times and everything seemed normal. I took the next off ramp to turn around and head back to the dealership. About 3 minutes later, I began to feel a vibration in the steering wheel and hear a rhythmic rub noise. It quickly became the violent shaking described in my first encounter and became 10x worse when braking. IMO something is causing the brakes/ calipers to hang up and drag on the rotors while driving causing them to get extremely hot and cause the violent shaking but only on the front end brakes. I pulled up in the parking lot of the dealership and called my writer by cell to meet me so I could show him what was going on. While I waited for him to mosey on over at this leisure, I put the truck in gear, made sure the truck's E brake was not engaged and got out of the vehicle and walked away from it to greet my service writer. Guess what... It didn't even budge an inch on level asphalt. The brakes were holding it in place without even being in the vehicle. ( just showing off and that there is a GD problem) He then got in my truck and said we will handle it and drove away in my truck.
Now to the conversation today. 5pm. He tells me the technicians have left for the day (convenient). The tech drove the truck for 10 miles at 930am and nothing happened. how bout call me then so I can tell you to put him back in the truck and drive the mf'er. NPF my *ss!!!! WTF!! He proceeds to tell me he doesn't want to keep putting people in the vehicle to test drive it and nothing happens. (Calling me a liar??). He then decides to put a dealership porter behind the wheel ( after the Techs have all gone home at 4pm and really put some miles on it as if the miles I put on it the day prior were insufficient to look into a brake problem but the porter, well he's truly credible. What happens? The truck begins to violently shake while the porter is driving it and now and only now, is it justified to have the Service Tech Really put some miles on the truck. OR just look at the brake system!!!! I phoned a buddy of mine who is a mechanic and is the Fleet Manager for the water District here in Vegas. I tell him the story and he proceeds to tell me that there is a known problem regarding brake calipers on the HD truck chassis (roughly years 2017-2019) and are known to stick and cause the problems I'm describing and that there is a TSB related it. He has had to have several of his fleet vehicles calipers and rotors etc. repaired/ replaced for this same issue. Anyone know this to be true about the TSB or knowing about the issue?? Someone please reply with some validated information. I've contacted the Dealership's service manager in hopes that he might be able to motivate these individuals to remove the heads from their *sses. and just fix the truck.
