I put comp in, I was all ready to go out and mess around... started and idled for a few minutes, back out of my driveway and push the throttle about 1/4 of the way down and all I get is clouds of brownish/ black smoke, not just a little A LOT, traffic stopped both directions and I was stuck limping up the street until the next side road:mad:, I am pretty sure they have to fix the comp, but is there anyway that it was my fault.

and is this guy on this site like kennedy's person

I am very pissed, now I have to go back out in 20 degree weather and put my stock computer back in:mad:

thanks ssdiesel, but I could have gotton a smoke machine for a lot cheaper

before talking alot of ****, talk to Tech support or Walt, I would be extremely surprised if this situation isnt handled fairly and in a good time, Walt and the rest of the gang at SSDiesel are all good people and have superior customer service/tech support to help you get on your way. I have purchased many things from SSDiesel and have nothing bad to say, If there was a problem or I had questions they were always answered usually within the day...

i know, I was just blowing off a little steam... they answer phones between 7 and 3, (guess when I am at school:()

I just drove around for about 30 min with stock computer in, and it blew smoke for a couple minutes but then it stopped... it was an unbelievable amount of smoke befor, and I couldn't get above 5mph

for $625 I was expecting a little better result

I will call them tomorrow during school i guess

are you getting boost? sounds like your turbo might not be spooling up and the new PCM is doing what is supposed to, adding more fuel, but your turbo isnt keeping up.

I am having some trouble with my glow plugs from SS Diesel. I have been in email contact with Walt.....now he seems to be a standup kind of guy!!

He returns my emails within a day. Can't ask for better than that. :)

once I put stock computer back in I got boost fine, I really didn't want to push it with the new comp because right off idle it started to blow so much smoke, and once it got around the 8mph it started to feel very wierd, and I couldn't even get it to the point of where it normally builds boost

it scared the crap out of me when I backed into a county road and just had no power to get out of the way of the bus that was flying up the road, thankfully he must have slammed on his brakes as soon as the whole road was filled with smoke.

yeah drop Walt an email. I was in the same situation as you with school when I had some questions about my injectors. Anyway, he got back to me the next day. He definately stands behind his products.

As a 97 you may be up against theft deterrent passcode fuel shut off, confirm with Walt but you may have to "teach the computer to talk to your truck" theft code learn procedure is in FAQ sticky's

What about timing?

Would that do it if it needs to be set?

This isn't very ethical, you should really save this kind of thread until after tried contacting the vendor and he tells you to bugger off. It's too bad the computer didn't give you the results you were expecting, but you didn't even take the time to figure out why.

I asked here not to bash on them, but to find out if it was something like a bad adjustment on my part that was messing it up, and not the computer (like some of the responces I got from turbine doc, davidphillips, and scrufdog)

Thanks for the responces of the people who had something constructive to say...

sorry for everybody who thought the sole purpose of this thread was to badmouth ssdiesel

Dude,
If you were asking for assistance it sure didn't seem that way. I thought you were bashing them.
I would be upset too if I just forked out the big bucks for a new computer and it didn't work. Like others suggested, you should have called SS first before you posted on here saying SS Diesel what the ****! or if you're going to post for help, you do it in a more diplomatic way.

Just my 2 cents.

Timing should not be an issue, I've never had to retime on a PCM swap to make it run, I have retimed to optimize the timing, but basic timing should stay same PCM to PCM unless there is something odball in a SS tune. I suspect it is a problem with vehicle theft deterrent fuel cutoff, I have had reflash swap problems with that before. 1 case where it just would not learn the the TDet code (BD/Z-Industries tune) and rest were GM OEM S to F swaps, & Heath (But running through theft learn in FAQ I got those running). I'm not sure when TD came into being but I think 97 was 1st rear for it.

What is that you say Pooch supposedly you have been banned from here, Hey condiment seller I know you are watching, take notice Pooch is still here and is even endorsing fair treatment by this vendor.

Sorry guys, I digress if you want details on what this is about PM me, long time veterans of the site know of what I speak.

turbine doc, based on what I have said do you think that is possibly the problem. I have to wait until feb 5th to talk to someone about it, because they don't do there own tuneing. so do you think it is worth a shot to try the theft deterant thing (it is a little cold in NJ today) so I don't want to go out messing with the truck, if it isn't really going to help

thanks

I'd try it cold or not, it will take about a half hour to do, it's a key on key off kind of thing, if it works you are done, and you have some info to pass back to Walt if it works, and owe him one huge apology.

there was no note in the reflash box with theft learn instructions ???
