I'm curious about the spin-on that I'm about to change... I can't see it in the hydraulic schematic anywhere in my allison factory manual?

The sump panel filter is there, but not the spin-on (unless I'm blind).
So - is the spin-on simply a oil cooler return line filter, or is it the main filter for the valve manifold / soleniods?

ok - sorry, I know where it is physically, I'm just curious if it is actually just a 'return filter' (like on the chrysler 545rfe for example) or if it is the 'main' control filter for the whole trans.

If you have the same schematics as me, the spin filter is called the control main filter and it's part of the control main pressure circuit.

I'm somewhat surprised it's after the spool valves, but it's before the main solenoids...
