Went to Home Depot last weekend with my wife and brother, as we were walking out I forgot one item so I remote started my 07' LBZ for my brother to wait for my wife and I in (It's cold here in MI) as we made another quick purchase. Anyhow as we exited the store for the second time I could here this newer Dodge Cummins rattling from 30 parking spaces from the door parked next to my LBZ with just a dog in the front seat. When I jumped back in my truck my brother who was in the back seat this whole time said the Cummins owner parked next to us and walked up and down the side of my truck, stuck his head in the front wheel well, made a complete circle around it and then stuck his head in the front wheel well again, then stood back and looked for a minute before going into the store. I guess he was a little amazed at the quietness of these new engines too. I know I was impressed once again as well, I had to get into my truck to actually see if it was still running and my parking lights just we not on from the remote start.

Thats all one needs for an alarm clock is a Cummins or a Powerstroke in the morning. But there all good. Some just quieter.

:p: I know what you mean. Right after I got my new LBZ last month, I showed it to a friend of mine who has a Dodge / Cummins.

I handed him the key and said start it up. When I said that it was a diesel, he didn't believe me.

I showed him the Duramax/Allison badge and he muttered something about wanting to get a new truck. :cool2:

The first time my dad saw my 06, he was standing in his driveway as I pulled up. We started talking and I mentioned how much more I liked the diesel over the gas that I had just traded. His next remark was "That's a diesel?"
They're so quiet you really can't tell if you're standing in front of the truck as it pulls up. I'm still impressed with that one.

My LBZ has 25,000 miles on it now and it is a little bit noisier than it was new, but still ALOT more quet than the stroker or a Bummins.

It is still easy to order food at a drive thru as I do not have to shut it off to talk.:ro)

One day I was hauling the trash off and saw a freind in front of me at the dumpsters. I was sitting there with the motor running and he walked up to the drivers door. He hadn't seen my new chevy so he started asking questions about it. He said what size motor is that and I said 6.6 liter. He looked amazed and said is that a diesel? He said it was so quite that he thought it was a gas motor....:D

Yes even with the exhaust system, if you stand in front of my truck, you can still only hear what sounds like the fan. If you stand in the back near the exhaust.... now thats a different story.

That's wierd because I can hear mine from inside the house when mine is running in the driveway, oh and can smell it too.

Do I need to run an additive or something to smooth/quiet it out a little?

Im not sure if an additive makes it quieter, but I've always run Stanadyne so I wouldn't know. When it idles, theres not much throat to the exhaust, (mine anyway)I definitely can not hear it in the house, just sounds like a hair dryer if you stand by the rear. A big one!

As far as the additive goes, I ran a pretty big tune yesterday (there should have been a good amount of black smoke) and I really didn't see very much black smoke, just slightly grey when Im on it hard, seemed like roughly 100-125hp tune. Does this sound right to everyone?

How often have you seen a Cummins or a Powersmoke have to shut off at the drive through just so they can order? I have seen it more than once!! You dont see the duramax's shutting off do you? HMMMM, must be a reason for that.

No--you just need better windows.:D I run Howes Lubricator constantly year round,so I really don't know for sure if she'll quiet down, but I would most definitely start running some additive with the new ULSD.Mine is just a tad louder than a Chevy Vortec gas engine--real quiet.
