We have a 2004 , built 10/2003. It's barely a 04, and it has the LB7 engine, the same one that everyone else is having trouble with. We purchased this truck, not knowing about all the injector problems that GM is having. As of Oct 2006, our Duramax started smokin, and it only had 109,000 miles on it. We took it into the dealer, and they tested it and said that the #8 injector is hitting and missing. We also asked them at that time if running it out of fuel could cause this problem, and they said maybe! Does anyone know if running it out of fuel could cause this problem? Does anybody believe that this could be true after all the injector problems, or is this just there way of trying to get out of having to fix the problem. We we're just trying to be honest about running it out of fuel. If we wouldn't of said anything about that, we wonder what they would of said about it then. We are aware of the recall on the 2003 Duramax. Our Son has one, and had to have all the injectors replaced in it. And, the dealership took care of it. And, his truck is only 4 months older then ours. It's very hard to believe that the injectors are different in ours. Thats what there trying to tell us, that because ours is a 2004, that they had already switched over to different injectors. I think it's all BS on GM's part. We would love to hear from others out there that have 04's, and get your advice, and opinions. Thanks.

as far as i know gm finally started covering the 03. the 01 and 02 are covered for 200k miles and so are the 03's as of about 2 months ago.....dont hate the motor, i know its an expensive fix but the truck really is worth it...

running out of fuel IS bad for the whole fuel system and it does cause damage to the components....is it the cause of the injector failure......id say not but GM as of now isnt covering the injectors on the 04's
