I have it too,but it's in 2wd and 4wd :( . Happens when I downshift or brake. It's not my brakes either. It goes away part of the time too? Have a bad carrier bearing but not sure that is it.

I have the same problem on my 2000. I'm pretty sure its the t case. I was going to take the front driveshaft out and see if it changed anything! Hopefully I get some time soon. Working around 80 hours a week makes it hard to find anything...I'll post if I find anything!:D

How loose? You can rotate this, like the bearing isn't tight on the ouput. That the way it normally is?

I've got 2200 miles on my 3500 and I hear a chattering sound when in 4-wheel drive when decellerating too. I had a tundra and the only way I knew it was in 4x4 was the light on the dash and the hard steering. I figure the GMC has heavy duty components compared to the tundra so there would be some noise.

If you grab it at the output you should feel slight movement up and down.
