Hey guys, I am new to the board and I am considering going with a duramax as my next truck. I just started my own business and will need to pull a small(less than 20ft) trailer about twice a month for about 2-3k miles. I currently have a 1999 NBS 1500 Sierra, 4wd, all options with 129,000 miles and I am looking at a 2001 Chevy 2500hd LS duramax with 191,000 miles.
They want about 13k for it, it is about 1000 miles from me unfortunately :(. I am going to ask them for a carfax and I will run the vin on dealerworld, I am hoping to find that the injectors have been changed recently and if not I am thinking that I should ask them to have the injectors tested. Is there anything else that I should ask them? Good deal or not?
Thanks!
Matt

If you can afford it sure, but the injectors are out of warranty in 9000 miles, and I do not know of the inception date.

welcome to the board!! There is a section on here where you can do vin check if you have the vin number. Thats not a bad price but for what its worth i think i would stay away from it. The injectors on some of these trucks have alot of problems but at the same time some guys never have issues with them. Me personally im on my 3rd set, the early LB7s have a 200K warranty on the injectors so you would be covered for another 9K but if the injectors do go out after the warranty get ready to eat 5 grand for the dealer to replace them. You can find a duramax for a couple more thousand that has alot less miles. Like i say thats just my opinion, but i know i wouldnt be able to just come up with 5 thousand bucks for a repair bill!!

It depends on what it was used for. The engine in itself isn't the big issue. You still have a truck with almost 200,000 miles on it. If it has been a hwy truck then maybe, but if it was a work truck, it will squeak, rattle, and who knows what else. Get the vin # and have them check it in the Vin # check section of the site and go from there.

Fuel injectors at 170K and get it on the cheap? I say go for it, and you can always make the repairs for the cost of a new one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like pretty standard stuff for a truck with close to 200,000 miles. I would still test drive it, and a carfax report wouldn't hurt.

Commercial
Vehicle was registered for business purposes.

First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.

Ownership History
CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1994 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history.

Title Issued
A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.
