Hey guys, I have a 03 1500hd 4wd  and this message just came up on my DIC, and all the pushbutton lights are off. This is my first pushbutton 4wd, (has auto4wd and 2hi, 4hi, and 4lo and so on) much more comfortable with a transfer case lever : all my manual says is turn off the the truck with trans in park and restart truck and if message still appears then 4wd needs service. Any thoughts? Of course it waits until we have snow and ice galore

Is this going to be a continuing problem, a weak link in the system? This morning when I started it up it was normal, everything worked, but now I'm a little leery. Kinda wish I would have got the floor shift transfer case.

When mine did that, it was the encoder motor that engages the transfer case that went out. It was 550 bucks to replace.

Is there anything I can do to test it? Or is the best thing just to take it in? I have the extended warranty on it and I don't really trust it to work if I was to need it even though it seems to be working fine now. With my old 84 truck you could cross the pins in the ecd plug and count the flashes to check codes, anyway to do something similar with this one?

I have a 2500hd 6.0 and mine did the same thing after I was parked on a pretty good sideways incline for a couple of hours. After I moved it, and left it off for about an hour, I started it back up without any problems and the light came back on for the 4wd.

Thanks Everyone! I have the warranty so I have scheduled a appointment, even though it seems to be working fine now figured I would have the switch replaced to be sure all is well, does the encoder motor go out very often? And is there any practical advice you can give me about using it that might extend the life of either?

We have 10 of these trucks in our group and of the 10 I think 6 have had encoder motors, and I don't think a one of them has had a switch put it. It doesn't sound like that is the norm here. The trucks we have are all late 2004 and 2005's. Don't know if that makes a difference.

I hate push button 4wd and always have. I would much rather have it mechanical on the floor, but you can't a get a 4 door that way.

My guess is that it is a c0327 code and you need an encoder motor sensor. The code probably set when you started the vehicle and the TCCM couldn't read the position of the encoder motor.
