Ok so in my quest I have come across this information. Can you tell me if I have my thoughts correctly

S = non hd

F = HD

S = RPO code L49, L56, and L57

F = RPO code L65

I am just trying to make sure I find an HD version Suburban vs a non HD version. TIA

PS. What do the S and the F come from.

mostly correct,

RPO code L56 - 8th digit VIN - S - 6.5 turbo

RPO code L49 - 8th digit VIN - P - 6.5 non turbo

and I think...
RPO code L57 - 8th digit VIN - Y - I suspect not turbocharged, I believe this is an engine found mostly in some larger vans.

And it has been discussed here before, and the consensus is that most of the suburbans whether 1500 or 2500 series had the L65 (F), and perhaps all did, not sure about that.

Thanks for the input. And you are correct. From looking online all the 2500 Sub's are F. Not seen an S. Thanks again for all the help.

All 1500 sub's with the 6.5, are 2WD(5-lug) S-VIN. All Tahoes/Yukon's w/6.5 are 2 door 4WD(6-lug) S-VIN. All 6.5 sub's with 8 lug's are 2500's reguardless of what the door say's they could be 2WD or 4WD F-VIN. Light duty 2500 sub's w/ 6.5 have 6-lug's S-VIN and could be 2WD or 4WD.

So your saying my 8 lug 1500 is really a 2500? Did Cheby run out of 1500 emblems? :rolleyes:
