i was told by a buddy today that you can run ATF fluid in your tank to clean your injectors and to produce more smoke...you guys here if thats true? I havent dont it yet...and dont plan till i see what it does
What could be in ATF that could clean injectors? 2 cycle oil as a lubricant maybe, but these are lubricants--not cleaners. I can't think of any reason to run ATF through an injection system. The fact that it may smoke a lot is a clue that it is not burning completely and is not recommended. A good injector cleaner has got to be safer, better and cheaper. Millions in research were spent making these engines relatively smoke-free...
marvel mystery oil is the best injector cleaner I have used. I dont know about diesel but works good in gassers. and why would you want it to smoke anyway? I now some old timers that used to use atf to clean valves and combustion chambers by feeding it in through a vacuum line.
With the older mechanical injectors that was true. It is an old truckers trick and actually worked pretty well. You could even use ATF in the fuel filter when changing it.
I would not recommend it for the new common rail injectors our engines have. They are not very forgiving when the wrong fluid is run through them and it could easy cost you a bundle of money.
Sorry folks. Been adding it in my mix for well over 50K miles now and most know how well this truck runs. If it is such a cleaner (instead of a lube), why do you run it in the trans where you need the lube at? Try draining the trans and filling it with diesel with a few oz of additive and see how long it lasts. Your doing the same thing to the injection pump and injectors.
