If you have been watching these threads:

regarding the new (I call it the Super Built Clutch) SBC double disc clutch with the new sprung hubs, then you might be interested in learning about the “identical” Dodge version.

Peter has been working on (Dodge and Ford) diesel clutches for a very long time and makes more kinds of clutch kits for diesels (I counted 19 for Dodges and 18 for Fords and now 8 for Duramax – which I can sell) than any other company I am aware of. The new double disc sprung hub was started for the Dodge. The TDR forum has a thread for the Dodge version which Peter started early December 2006. Here is his first post:

Take A Peek At What We Are Working On:

We have found a way to build the first spring loaded dual disc for the diesel pickup trucks!

Reasons for doing this...

1. To hold the power where a single disc falls off.
2. To resolve the problem of idle clatter and transmission/input shaft ware.
3. To help with the ease of engagement.

We are sending this prototype out to Ponci's Diesel for Brad to install in his truck. Brad is currently using our dual disc with the solid hubs. We feel he will be a perfect candidate to compare the difference between the two designs with top quality knowledge and workmanship. He will also be able to relay any information needed to make additional changes if needed. We have also selected another truck for a second unit that is a 3rd generation to do some testing. lmills/Lloyd from Mid Atlantic Diesel has installed and ran many dual disc clutches and we believe he will be able to provide valuable comparisons from the previous designs. His truck also has very good power and is currently running our CON FE on the ragged edge. The 3rd gen. trucks are very quite so this should be a good test not only for the noise but the driving mannerisms between the FE and the DD.

I am hoping for the best so we are able to tackle the awesome power that your trucks are now producing and bring to rest the concerns so many people have as to whether or not to use a DD clutch for fear of noise and transmission ware.

There are currently about 70+ posts and all are positive. Checking this thread:

will make you very confident in buying SBC products. There is a number of post regarding the smooth and quite new sprung hub DDC compared to the prior solid DDC. Here is another post Peter put on that thread that is pretty cool:

Well this is the word on the new design...

Southbend clutch rocks!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well i recieved the new revised flywheel and installed it right away. All i can say is wow ( ). Once again the install was a breeze with no issues what so ever. I fired the beast up and took her for a little ride. Did another launch and a few speed shifts. This clutch is what i call smoooooooooooth. No chatter or bucking at all. I cant say enough about how quiet it is and how soft the pedal feels compared to the old style d/d. This new clutch is a 12cb with a 3250 plate load diaphram style with strapped center plate. The pedal lets out higher than the old D/D but not a objectional by any means. It actully feels like a duel stage clutch as you let the pedal out. That makes for a really smooth take off. Peter did say that the price should be about the same as the original D/Ds. Peter also said that they should be ready to ship out after the first of the year about the middle of January. Once again i would like to thank Peter and the crew for another great product and always striving to be ontop with there products and service.

Dodge diesels have been around for quite a while (since 1989) and they have a LOT of manual transmissions out there. If this new clutch kit works so well on the Dodge and its many potential customers are confident regarding SBC products, then us I believe that Duramax 6speed guys should also be confident regarding the quality of the new Duramax sprung hub DDC kit which will start shipping out tomorrow. Please check this TRD thread. I will try to provide more information soon.

Great to hear! Peter's great product and your great customer service makes for a winning pair!

Can't wait for mine to get here! I'm pretty sure mine was the first ordered, so it should be the first shipped, right? Not that I'm in a rush...

But has it shipped yet?!? ;)

Thanks for the post from TDR... Seems to be doing favorably with the Cummins crowd.

The Cummins is strapped, or did that change? Just curious, as ours is not, correct?

Deadeye, what was the price on the new set-up. I heard it would be close to the same but never heard what it actually was.

Deadeye -- Does this clutch & flywheel meet SFI Spec 1.2 and/or 1.5? Thanks.

this thread is about the Dodge kit and I don't have that price right now. If you mean for the Duramax the price is on the other thread: $1250 for the next ~55 days or so.
That is the price for a dual disc with a sprung hub for a duramax.
Thaught those were closer to $2000 or are they on sale right now.
