Replacing lights in radio

rchandler;

The lights are replaceable, but not easily. First off, the bulbs in the radio are 12 volt bulbs, NOT 6 volt. I had your problem, only worse, most of the lights were out in my DVD player/radio. Actually the DVD unit was out and I found a similar unit at the junkyard which had a good DVD unit. The DVD unit is very easy to replace, just a couple of screws and one cable to unplug. Since I was trashing the unit I got from the junkyard, I decided to see if the front panel would come apart, it does. The whole front panel comes off the radio, and two (I think) cables have to be unplugged. You will have to release some plastic clips to get the front panel apart, they are very obvious. The board with the lights on it is held on by a bunch of small hex head screws, no doubt some metric size, but I used small vice grip pliers to remove them, lots of room. Once you get the board out, you will see all the little light bulbs scattered over the board. You can apply 12volts to any one of the bulbs to see which ones DON'T light up, they are all wired in parallel. You will need a small soldering iron, I used a 30 watt, to unsolder the bulbs. I used bulbs from the junkyard radio to replace the burned out bulbs in my radio. I read on another post that you can get new bulbs from www.mouser.com but I don't know the part number. You might want to check out the DIY forum where a new post shows how to replace the incandescent bulbs with LEDs. Should last a LOT longer.

Hope this helps,:)
