This coming spring/summer will be my first attempt to pull my truck. I was wondering what gear most people pull in? I have heard many different things from local people, but would much rather have your experienced opinions. Thanks

k what about tow haul do you leave it on or off? and do you think a stock allison will handle pullin a sled like that?
Yes and yes. IMO start in 2nd shift to 3rd and then shift into N when done so the truck doesn't stall. Words like a dream.

If you bump it out of tow haul you can prevent it from stalling, much easier than throwing it into neutral. You have to do it before you spin out, but yeah with your power level 3rd at the most.

Mine will still stall. The ATS converter will not unlock fast enough. I know he has a stock one, by putting it into neutral the truck will not stall. Always remember, "nothing in life worth doing is easy".

The big thrill comes when you accidently push the lever into reverse. Actually, nothing bad happens because the Allison is smarter than the driver, and won't let it happen.

if you take tow haul off you can spinout and go a bit farther, if you throw it in neutral you will more than likely cheat yourself out of inches. and if you think inches dont matter then ask anyone. Either way works

I was standing at the end off the track when Amos did that. What a freaking bang! I could not beleive the trans took that. That truck runs great. He won Shelbyville, Ky.

I've had good luck with 4-hi in 1st. Anyone else try this?

No TCC lockup in 4hi 1st is probably the main reason not as many have tried this. Its a fair bit harder on the ol torque converter and trans. and since no TC couples 100% (at least I don't think they do), you'll lose a little power through the trans. more so than if its locked up due to the slippage.

I've never pulled a day in my life but do plan to start this year and I won't be pulling in 4hi 1st for the above reasons.

Just a thought and my understanding of how it works.

High Rpms = High Gear everyone has their own way of doin it best way is to just guess and try it you can always change somthing next time. Since Track Conditions make all the difference and if you come back for a pull off you got heat working against you too always somthing
