So, I had picked up a 1995 6.5 for a fairly decent price knowing she needed some work, and maybe a new engine. I knew she had at least a blown head gasket as the coolant was disappearing while the system was over pressurized. I wasn't surprised to see the tell tell signs of corrosion on the number 7 cylinder indicating a cracked head, but what I saw next left me a little annoyed. Now, it seems that this engine was rebuilt not too long ago because the cylinders have a very small lip compared to any other 6.5 I have seen with 260K + miles on them. I don't know the history though so I'm not sure. I guess the real question is do I put it back together and let it ride (not really), drop the oil pan and pull the bad piston, replacing it (most likely), or some other option. I'm not real pleased right now, as I have never had one of these fall out and the other one inserted sideways in it's bore makes me wonder if they were properly installed in the first place, and if they screwed this up, what else might they have done wrong.
