I live in Idaho and about 4 months ago there was a big thing on the news about bad diesel and it destroying the fuel systems of peoples trucks. Can anyone recommend a good pre fuel filter set up? Where to mount it? What brand? I don't want this to happen to me.

I put one on at the second alternator location. Made a bracket, bought a filter head, fittings, hose, and filter from work (parts store) and plumbed it in pre OE. But, to make that setup work you have to have a lift pump because that filter ends up be the highest point of the fuel system and air in the fuel becomes a big problem.

BUT, that's assuming you have a Duramax..... fill out your signature and let us know what you drive.

Yeah I have the duramax. I have seen those filter setups from the vendors here. How much did yours run you after all was said and done?

Round numbers:

Wix filter head $25
filter Wix $10
about 10ft. hose $20
Some fittings, clamps, bolts $20-30
Scrap metal for bracket FREE
TTS dual lift pumps $500

The second filter is cheap, the fuel pumps are what gets you. Even though they were a great improvement for stacking chips, they were also needed for the fuel filter mod.

Filter

I just installed a system that was purchased from Lubrication Specialist. It comes with everything you need to install and includes a 2 micron filter. It can be hooked up pre or post OEM filter for a $175. It seems like a nice set up and installs in about 30 min.

I was just looking at the nicktane filter. Is this a very good one? Will the stock fuel pump work with that big cat filter and the om one or will I have issues. I am not going to buy it I will just make it myself 200 bucks is a little bit too much money for a simple filter system like that. Also because I am going to mount it by the tank there should be no problems with bleeding the system I will just do it like normal right?
