It's my first quad, and the only other quad I've spent any amount of time on is my dad's Polaris 800 so I don't have anything to compare it to. But it's never left me stuck. The power steering models come with a faster engaging locker (QE Visco-Lok maybe?), and that's what mine is. Both front wheels spin right away.

I don't think any Commanders have power steering, so they'd have the slower lockers and not the faster lockers.

I'm pretty sure I posted in a thread like this before, but here you go again. Mine is (was, I sold it) a 650 arctic cat. it's been through many stages including a complete re-build.

Here's some pics of it through it's life.

then the complete frame off rebuild and color match to my new truck!

when I was done it was running GOOD on E85 and could sling 31's and 32's in anything it got in........ as long as I could keep the diffs from blowing apart.

I will have to get some pics of my 09 850XP Polaris in here. Just got it a few weeks ago after selling my 02 Polaris 400. Quite a noticeable difference!!! LOL.

mt jasper,

It depends also on how you plan on using the quad. I ride good distances exploring... not the mud stuff. My 500 Sportsman Polaris has over 6k miles with only the carb requiring some replacement parts that were worn. It does take some matenance due to the front diff, trans belt and other std stuff including jerk fittings. I also put new boots on the axles. I suggest a Honda or Yamaha if you want to keep maintenance to a min. Mud and water is a quads enemy - so much more upkeep is required.

The single picture is my 2008 Arctic Cat 500. Just about dumped me head first into some lovely Alaskan muskeg.
The other pic is how we roll out scouting hunting areas. Ok, well we scout for a few hours of the day and drink around the fire for the rest.

Heading out in the morning with my wife and son. 750 King Quad, 500 King Quad, & 650 Rincon. Love that Honda, but the Kings are growing on me...
