CEL for glow plug several days ago traveling to NW US. Put 4 gallons of DEF in truck today at Loves after message on being low. Drove about 150 miles and message about poor quality DEF comes on with 99 miles to start of limp mode (65 MPH). Made it about 60 miles to Chevy dealer in Portland, Oregon. We are from Tennessee. At first they said might be the turbo. Tech drove the truck about 40 miles and reported not the turbo. They changed the glow plug and said the DEF is okay because truck has passed the next "check" point on DEF. They said glow plug may have caused it not to regen. One glow plug changed several months ago. Also changed turbo vane position sensor earlier back home. Sensor was under warranty. Glow plugs covered under regular and "extended warranty" by GM. Hope we weren't just sent on our merry way back home.?????

Poor quality DEF light and glow plugs and they think your turbos bad? LOL wtf? :hehe::hehe::hehe:

Glow plug issue has an extended warranty you should be covered, and the DEF issue is also an extended warranty on the sensors in the tank....sounds like u stopped at a dealership with no diesel tech lol

Low quality DEF usually means one of the NOX sensors are bad. The only way that GM has to "know" if an owner is trying to mess with their DEF is by seeing if there is an improper reduction of NOX between the sensors. If it is out of what they consider proper, they assume that the DEF is low quality. Knowing that you just filled up at a truck stop, we can probably assume that the DEF was ok. That leaves you with one or both NOX sensors being bad. Exact same thing happened on my truck. A dealer may try to say that using a truck stop's DEF would cause problems. Not true. As long as it is a quality, name brand kinda DEF and not too old (more than 2 or 3 years) you are fine. Saying that it is the wrong DEF would be like.......saying that your turbo is bad because of a glow plug or a DEF quality issue...just as an example. LOL!!!
Glow plug issue would be unrelated.
Have a safe drive back bud!!

The NOx sensors (which are used to evaluate def quality) are in the exhaust, not in the def tank.

I guess what I was refering to was the seperate warranty for reductant fluid tank or w/e. But yes you are right I had nox sensor #1 replaced when I had about 5-6 codes being thrown and it fixed all of them
