Howdy.

I have a question for all you California residents. I am going to be spending the next 4 months living the the Bay area. I currently have the factory exhaust minus a the CAT. I do however have it sitting on a shelf in the garage.

Is it worth my time to re-install it before I head down? I keep hearing all these stories of CHP sopping people and doing emissions checks. That is the last thing I want. My truck doesn't attract any attention really. It is factory outside except for window tints.

Side note. How strict are they on front window tints? I have factory match tints currenty, which are about 25%.

Thank you.

I think that if your truck is not registered in CA, they can't get you for violating CA smog laws. Same with tint. Hopefully someone can confirm.

You will be fine, especially with out of state plates. Just be respectful of traffic laws, many agencies are looking for revenue from violations. If you don't give them a reason they will leave you alone.

My truck is definitely not stock and I have never been hassled with over 200,000 Kali miles. I have even passed our smog test twice now without any hassle.

I have seen a few roadside CHP emission checkpoints. I think that they wouldnt bother you with out of state plates. If you have a bunch or racing stickers, spoilers and a wing on the back might be another story.

speaking on behalf of us Law Enforcement Specialist in the Bay Area, you will be fine with Out of State Plates, however if your seriously blowing some coal so to speak, expect the long road side stop and inspection, just because!

Out of state plates out of my mind, so that goes for all of us. Enjoy the Bay Area

Awesome. Thanks for all the replies fellas. It was great to get some input from some actual LEO's too.
I tend to run a pretty low profile, so based on everyones suggestions I'll be just fine.

Now that they know you're coming, they're gonna be waiting for you at the state line. :)
