how are the heads? they still flat? We had an H-2 that we put a Dmax into and while testing a rock went into the radiator and it overheated. slightly warped the heads. Not enough room to mill either.

He wasn't overheating just burping coolant all the time from cylinder pressure getting to the coolant.

Its kinda disappointing the way GM attempts to dodge repairs. turBeau's truck was constantly puking coolant, and even hours after sitting his upper hose would be rock hard. The cap held the 15-16 psi and let the rest out along with coolant here and there.
Last weekend at Melvin's I couldn't believe that they were letting it ride. Beau had to go in there and put his foot down and tell them this is it, fix it now because I won't be adding anymore coolant. This thing had been eating coolant for thousands of miles with the run-around song and dance by GM.
Now we need to build his confidence on getting a free extended warranty on his engine.
People with experience on the extra warranty please post.

I went down and talked to the tech working on his truck. The first time they changed his thermostats. The second time they changed his water pump and radiator. Beau didn't know but I found out talking to the tech that they changed his radiator out because they knocked a hole in it when they were struggling to remove his balancer to change his water pump. He may have had it in there another time but I am not sure.
The tech said he thought maybe head gasket but that GM techline was telling him to replace the other stuff first. GM is costing themselves millions by taking this route of trying the cheap way first instead of doing the right thing first, since in the long run they have to end up doing the right thing anyway.
Stats or water pump don't account for excessive pressure at all times, only a compression source does that. Beau had to point out the rock hard hoses on the last trip for them to get it.
Oh, another thing, of three techs I talked to there, NONE OF THEM knew about the EGR cooler and its relationship to exhaust and coolant, nor did they know about the LBZ. They argued with me that there were only two flavors of Dmax.

ours was initially caused by an overheat. after replaceing the radiator it seemed ok until I found that hoses ROCK HARD after sitting overnight. On the extended warrenty thing!!! GMPP MAJOR GAURD is the best one for the GM owners. Zero Deductable. It is covered by ANY GM dealer in the Nation. I have had customers call and give GM the riot act and GM folded and gave them a contract for free or even at a MAJOR discount. Call customer service in your owners manual and start a case on it. Tell them everything that has happened to the truck since purchasing it and that you have been a loyal GM buyer for YEARS!!!!!!!! Then if you have them, make copies of ALL of your maintenance records and warranty visits to your dealership and tell customer service that you have all of them and will send them if needed. (they really don't because they can look up warranty on GMVIS). Keep bugging them and even tell them if the dealer is being slow about it or trying to replace items that are not the cause or suspect cause. Don't stop complaining about it. If your truck is still under warranty then tell them you know about the CSI survery and at that time it would not be good.. GM is very hard on the dealers for the CSI and if the dealer is signed up on the SFE program then that dealer WILL loose a lot of money each quarter if they don't meet certain criteria. The dealership that I just left in October missed the SFE $ last quarter by 1 point. That meant they lost out on $250,000 from GM. You can bury your dealer if you need be or GM. Just don't give up and GM will fold..

Yeah, convincing the dealers to fix your trucks can be real fun at times...I wonder if G.M. would get off their fat rear ends if they had to provide the same replacement vehicles while yours were down...The last time I had a G.M. vehcle in the shop for an extended period they gave me a ford escort to drive, pathetic.Memory? More like a nightmare to me.

GM policy is that if you own a truck and your truck is still under factory warranty they are to give you a truck to drive. not going to get a DMAX but you will have a truck. Also if your truck is still under factory warranty you are not supposed to get a non-GM car to drive as a loaner. They have a contract with Enterprise and it also states in their policies and procedures manual on CD.

I've got a -:t white malibu. When I went up there yesterday, the service advisor said, "don't stay in their a long time b/c I'll get in trouble if you get caught." Needless to say, I stayed for a hour or so taking pictures and talking to the mechanic.):h I asked if they had the gaskets in stock and they don't. Don't know how long it will take to get them. If its not ready by Wednesday or so, they better get ready for an angry customer. By the way my oil life % on the malibu has been at 0 since I got it. That was almost 300 miles ago.

According to GM you are supposed to be driving another truck. That is in their policies and procedures CD. Have your service advisor do his job and read it sometime. When I was an advisor at the Cadillac/HUMMER shop here in town, I went out of my way to help get people into vehicles that they liked or needed. GET AFTER THEM AND DON'T STOP. Are they giving you a hard time with the mods that you have done? My shop here in town gave me a hard time because of the exhaust. Said they would not do anything to it until i replaced the stock exhaust.

I don't even think they noticed the exhaust. I set the truck back to stock and plugged the EGR back in. The cat's there but not really. If its going to be a while before I get it back, I will definately hit him up for a truck. Thanks for the information.

With this head gasket looking the way it did, I never saw any white smoke under full throttle. It was gray/black even with a tune in it. It must have been finding another way to get out. My dad calls the way my head gasket looks as channeling. All those rips in the black coating was the pressure escaping. Wait till you see what my intake and EGR looked like. I unplugged it, but not until I was already at -:t 30,000 miles.

take pics of it and post it. could you also take pics of the phantom cat? I was thinking of gutting mine and installing it inline with the set up i have that way they still think it is there.

I've got the pics of the intake and EGR already. Just waiting on Chris to resize them and send them back. The cat turned out good. My dad and I took a piece of angle iron and made a point on one end. Then, with a 6 or 8 pound hammer started going at it. Took an hour or so to get it all out. I'll take some soon and post pictures.
