Hey DP
So, let me start by saying thanks for all the tips/info you guys have provided me with during this 'head gasket adventure'
Passenger head came off, I believe I have found the location of the leak. It is right by #2 cylinder. I have attached some pics below:
- pics of all of the cylinders and bores, let me know what you guys think? Near the bottom of the cylinder, some metal is visible.... I am not sure why it is like this on most of the cylinders
- the head gasket is clearly blown, but this is the only place I saw it. I attached a pic of the head gasket. I wasn't sure what else to look for. I am a bit surprised it is on the #2 side because tons of coolant came puking out when removing the studs near #8. Is this normal?
- I am getting new heads from my father in law for free. These have minor cracks between the valves and some teencie weencie spider-webbing near the precups.
For those of you viewing, please take a look and let me know if you note anything? This is my first head job on a diesel.
I do have a question, are the studs supposed to have coolant and oil going through them? Or only some? Or all? I was trying to find a passage diagram because I was a bit confused with how much coolant came puking out! I also had no mixing of oil/coolant.
EDIT: By the way, my symptoms were very very mild. I had no notable coolant consumption, I noticed my 'low coolant' light came on because some bubbles must have hit the sensor inside the overflow bottle, and upon inspection, noticed a few tiny bubbles. Upper rad hose did get hard. Some hard starting when warm, no issues when cold. Thats it!
Thanks,
