A lot of you either have Optimas or did have them. Anyone usind the Orbitals or the Odyssey?

I have seen some reports that the Orbitals aren't holding voltage, especially in the cold. Any experiences here?

Replaced the AC Delco's in my '02 last year when they started to leak with group 78 generics from Wally World. I'm looking for a better long term replacement.

I have Orbitals. No problems at all. Where are these reports of them losing voltage? Post a link if you can.

2 yellow top optimas here, no problems with either, and both sit in things that don't run much - like a few times a year in the last couple years. One is about 5 years old, one is 3 years old. Never tried the others, didn't need to, sorry.

Saying something is junk is not the same as saying why something is junk. Can you tell us why you say they are junk?

Hmm...I paid a lot less for my Orbitals than Optimas. Must be you don't get a discount at your local NAPA like I do.

Tom's right.....don't just say something is junk without having something to back it up. I did Google searches for "Orbital battery problems", "NAPA battery recall" and "Orbital issues" and came up with nothing.

Why is the Optima "overrated junk"? I've had 3 Red Tops in the last 11 years. The first one I bought lasted 8 years, the second one is 7 years old (still going strong) and the third one replaced the first one. Up until I bought my first Optima I was replacing batteries at least every two years.

I've gotten over three years of excellent service out of a pair of Optima red tops and they are still going strong even after two consecutive eastern Idaho winters with weeks of double-digit sub-zero starting.

I had a red top that died in 18 months. Batteries are like anything else, you can get good ones, and you can get klinkers. The important diffrence in brands is the number of klinkers they produce. That is to say, most folks would buy a battery from a manufacture that had one bad battery out of a million, before buying one from a manufacturer who had one bad out of every thousand.

I do believe that in Optima's you pay a premium price for the name (which does have a good reputation, I admit). In that regard however, if I can get the same technology and service from a brand that costs $20 less (x 2 for our trucks), I'm not opposed to saving money. ;)

Good post, Tom. I've got no experience with the others, so I'm not expressing opinion on them - just recounting that I've gotten good service from my Optimas.

I was going threw batteries in my boat at an alarming rate(set a year) and at 10batteries a bank and 2 banks that is VERY VERY pricey, I bit the bullet and replaced them with optima s, it has been 3 years since it has been all optima s with zero problems.

Anybody heard of the new DieHard Platnium? Sears is dropping the Optima's due to to many problems recently and putting the Platnium in its place. They have a 4 yr free replacment warranty and a 100 month pro-rate.

Optimas Junk??

2 red top 35/75 Optimas in mine, I love them..1600CCA/220 minutes, -40 in Edmonton AB at the airport for 10-12 days and having the confidence that my truck will start "everytime."is what I enjoyed...;)

"JUNK" would be a better term used to describe the factory batteries I pulled out...

I'm not disputing what you are saying, but usually Sears drops a supplier because they have found someone else who is cheaper, in price - not necessarily quality, although that is what happened to the Die Hard. I can remember in the early 70's, Sears Die Hard was one of the best batteries you could buy. Later, they obtained a reputation as being one of the worst.

I checked the Oddyssey website. Seems pretty impressive...

What Part number did you get? Did you order direct from Oddysey, or get them somewhere else? What is the price range?

Thanks
