So this morning I awoke to 14°F (coldest of the year so far - don't laugh Albertans, okay?) Cranked over ye ole bus. Started very well, as far as cranking duration. However, I noticed that cranking speed was very lacking as compared to warmer temps. I'm running synethic oil. I kinda thought that since optima battery technology was way different that the lead/acids that they were not as prone to the colder weather slowing down the cranking.

Right or wrong? Any other experiences?

I had an Optima battery in my 01 tahoe GAS and it never slowed down cranking speed even at -40C. I also was using 5W30 petroleum oil. I do know that a dirty post/connection will start to hurt performance most when bigger power is required. Cat C-15 would start fine until it was cold outside, about twice a winter I would have to clean posts.
