Oil gauges aren't necessary for the most part; oil temp matches coolant temp (already a guage for that), unless you have a massive oil leak, which would register in your oil pressure gauge.

To answer your question though, expect your oil to be roughly within the same temperature range as your coolant, so buy your guage accordingly.

Another reason to get a three gauge pod, but really not necessary.
As schulte said, oil temp will pretty much mirror coolant temp because of the way the oil cooler is set up. 100% of the coolant flows through the oil cooler before making its way into the engine.

My oil temps run 20-30 cooler then my coolant temps. Usually 165-180. I watch oil temp before towing heavy or running the truck hard. Coolant heats up faster than the oil, I can get heat before oil temp starts to move.

I installed an IssPro EV oil temp guage at the filter housing.
We tow 11K up/down 8/9% grades, oil temp does not follow water temp same rate. slow to heat, slow to cool.
180-190 normal 230 max seen in Summer, but I'm not in PHX towing up the Mogollon Rim either....
High Oil temps = Oil breakdown so the overheat problems of the older Duramax's are valid.
