That would depend on the oil pump, but that does seem high

Should be around 40 at very hot idle

Oem factory oil pump is less than that - some a\m pumps advert to increased oil pressure intended for hi-mileage engines, or hi-perf engines

That's within factory spec. Supposed to be a minimum of 10 psi per 1000 revs.

I just put a new engine in mine also with a high volume high pressure oil pump it runs about 80 psi when i first start it but goes down when warm. when warm it idles at 40 psi and about 60 to 65 psi at 2500 rpm. if yours is staying at 80 all the time you might want to check your oil pressure sender or grounds.

It may have the late model ['97-up] oil pump intended for the oil spray piston blocks. They put out a higher volume ,not sure if it would build more PSI. Have not put one in an older engine yet. Just a wild guess.
