I have heard some guys talk about oil around blocker plate. I haven't taken the plate out to look there , but I have an oil issue on the other end where the egr plugs in. There is oil weeping from the black cap right above the egr plug. I haven't taken it apart yet, I thought I would ask first. Is this still a pvc issue or should I unplug the egr? Is there a small gasket behind the cap? I don't like seeing oil there.

Thanks

Re-routing EGR hoses out of the intake will solve that problem!

My 05 has the same situation also some soot deposited on the valve cover below egr. I was tempted to disasemble the egr but have refrained so far.

Yea, Mine is all over the valve cover too . I'll get it in the shop in the morning and take a better look.

What's the process of Re-routing the EGR hoses?
There is a hose that comes from both directions atop the engine and comes to like a "T" and connects to the black plastic intake piece that connects from the compressor side of the factory turbo to the air intake, you'll prolly have to take off the thingy that says 6.6L Duramax on it. Take the hose out of that "black plastic thingy" and connect it to another piece of rubber hose (I think it's something like 1" ID) and just route it out of the way, mine runs along the a/c line and goes toward the passenger headlight and stops behind the passenger fog light. Some choose to put a filter on that end of the hose, JIC.

If you need I'll see if I can take some pics.
I almost forgot, you'll need a plug to plug off the hole where the hose was, I forget what it's called, but fairly easy to find at a Napa or such, 1 3/8" or 1 5/8" ???

I found a bunch of goo in the intake tube right at the pcv inlet. Not sure how this would affect the egr valve though. It appears that it is actualy leaking soot out of the valave itself. any education on this appreciated

12 mm socket , or was it 10, it's been awhile, to remove hoses from valve covers.. Intake is a simple quick clamp. Use a tubing cutter to remove factory hose ends, leave enough material to install new hoses. I used 1/2 ID fuel line as replacement hose. Install new hoses, allow 4' to 5' (each side) of hose for later routing, clamp and replace ends to valve cover. You can cut the lower center section of the factory line to use as a "plug" for the intake. There are many ways and set ups to route the hoses. Lay hoses over the engine keeping them as straight as possible, route away from turbo area and attach using your favorite system. ie. wire ties. I used 80's style air cleaner breathers at the hose ends and routed them into the fender wells. If your worried about leakage, I originally routed mine into the lower air box and ran this set up for 50k mi's with no problems, "for the greenies among us" LOL. Start motor and enjoy, happy in the knowledge that there is only about 3/8's of an inch of crud coating the inside of your intake now because you waited so long to do this!

When I tapped the hole for my boost guage recently, I found an oily film inside the "intake". I found this strange and wondered if there was a problem with the blocker plate. (of courst on further thought it would show soot not oil if there was a blocker problem). Anyway, I removed the blocker plate to have a look at it and there was not problem. I cleaned it up and put it back in. A little later, I moved the truck to find a spot of oil on the floor about the size of a small dinner plate. So I immediately log on to see what I can learn. I guess I also need to do something about the oil going into my intake through the PCV. The amount of oil seemed excessive to me, but I have been running it this way for probably 40K and the EGR would act like a seperator for anything not suspended in air, so i guess I won't worry too much about having a bigger problem. Has anyone checked or know if there is a pool of oil in the bottom of the CAC?

Thanks,
Bill
