dist how do you like the suncoast trans what others do you think are strong did you do the kit or do a complete swap and on the 1058 tc were did you get it. im thinking those are my next steps
I love my suncoast trans. I went with a full swap. I had almost 200,000 on the stock trans when it began to slip, and MikeL said it had to many miles to just do an upgrade kit. So I ordered a full suncoast trans and 1058 through him.
HOWEVER, I am not happy with the 1058. I think it is to tight down low for my stock turbo. It seems to function decent with my DSP switch on level 4 or 5. My understanding now is that the 1058 is more for the big boys. Mid - large turbos and 500HP+ tunning. If I was to do it again I think I would go with either the 1056 or the 1057.
My truck is a daily driver and tow pig. I do not go to the track or anything else. So the 1058 I think was the wrong choice for me. The 1058 has an agressive lockup also. If I am rolling into the throttle at about 50 - 55 and start to build some boost, the converter will lock and chirp the tires. It really sucks and is compounded when towing a gooseneck.
it sounds like Mike L is the guy to go to ive seen his name a lot on the forum. its sounds like i want to go with the 1058 i have the stage 1 upgrade turbo and looking at a lot more mods i like fast LOL. Maybe ill touch bases with Mike to see what he thinks. I deffinetly want to do the full swap how much did he charge for that setup. I am doing a lot of the work myself so just looking at parts cost.
I got it through him, but it was the same price that was on Suncoast's website. I had it shipped directly to me and did the swap my self. I have a GM tech as a friend that came over and we put the truck on stands @ 8AM and was driving by about 3 or 4 that afternoon.
Did you have to reset the taps and go through the trans learning process or flash the tcm or just put it in and drive im trying to decide if i should by a better scan tool than the code reader i have now or wait until i can affordthe efi live but i think my trans is taking some hits now so i thought replacing it would be the better next on the to do list.
Yes you need to get the taps reset. My friend that helped with the swap brought his tech2, so we were able to do a full in depth taps reset. Did not do a quick learn, I just let the TCM do a full relearn.
