My waterpump started leaking so I changed it to a HO waterpump. I do not have a good thermastat to go back in at this time. Would It hurt the engin if I ran it without thermastat? Thanks for your help

I don't think this is a good idea. Sure it will not harm it as heat should do ( overheat kills diesel ), but diesel needs heat to perform...

it will run ok, but it needs a thermostat to be efficient. Go get a therm for it.

Yes. It will hurt the engine over time.

Not running a thermostat will not allow it to properly warm up.

The 2 main functions of the thermostat are to keep a minimum temperature in the engine and slow the coolant circulation down so it has time in the radiator to cool off.

In the winter, you won't build any heat.

In the summer, it would probably do nothing but overheat.

Do not attempt to tow without them in place. You won't get far at all.

Does your 96 have the dual thermostats? Some here may tell you that running the HO pump without having the dual stats is not a good idea. If I were you, I'd check into that further.

My preference on thermostats is 195*. RobertShaw on brand.
