I have created this forum to better answer installation related questions regarding Nicktane fuel filter kits as well as suggestions for future improvement. I have received many of the same questions, and hopefully this will be a better resource to find answers.

I have a 42 gal aux tank and the tank is spliced into the truck fuel system with a 6 port valve. Currently I have a inline filter to filter the fuel from the aux tank before it goes into the valve. I want to change to a filter like yours but after looking at the install procedure it does not appear that your setup filters the fuel from an aux and the OEM tank. It seems the filter would have to be down stream of where you are tying in to accomplish filtering of both tanks. I believe the primary purpose of the inline filter was to keep trash out the valve more than filtering fuel before the engine gets it. This depends on the OEM engine filter for cleaning the fuel.

Can your filter be installed to filter both tanks? Is my assumption correct about having to install the filter differently than you are showing in the instructions?

Tom,

can you tell me where you aux tank actually taps into the fuel system? the ones i've seen so far tap into the fill neck. they transfer fuel from the aux tank, via the fuel neck to the OEM tank. if yours works in that fashion then my filter will work, as anything downstream from the OEM tank gets filtered. my filter sits between the oem tank and the hard lines that go up towards the engine. if you tell me where yours taps in i should be able to figure something out.

Mine is tapped into the factory fuel lines forward of the cooler/defoamer. I cut the lines and installed a 6 port valve using hoses with barb fittings on both sides of the valve. The valve allows use of the gage system and tank selection with return fuel being routed to the tank the fuel came out of.

Tom,

you are correct then. the filter would not filter both tanks. your only other option would be to mount it on the frame rail as others have done. you won't have any clearance issues with the short filter. the long one hangs down a bit.

Nick,

A friend of mine and I plan to buy your system. We have the same tank (auxtank.com) as Tom Cobb has. If we attach to the frame rail what short filter do we use? Do you have a separate bracket to mount that filter with?

Thanks,

Bob

Son of a Gun,

I don't have a bracket for a frame rail-mounted install. I only offer one for the location near the filler neck.

if you want the run the short filter, it is CAT part # 1R-0750.
