I love my LBZ and the best fuel mileage so far was 22.8 MPG with about 500 lbs. of junk in the bed.

If you are doing 10 - 14 you will not only be happy with an LBZ you will wonder why you did not do it sooner. I am getting 18 mpg with the new ULSD ( 20 mpg with LSD ) The power is incredable and I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not 18 any more, slow down! :) You won't regret it!

Truckie451 said it all. I'm 58 and had a Silverado 5.3 4X4 ext cab pulling a 7000 lb travel trailer through the Rockies. What a strain at times. This LBZ is like a quarter horse who wants to getti-up with little prodding. It has soo much power that it's halarious and fun to pull. I'm still under 7000 miles and the best so far was (empty)18mpg @ 75mph. Lowest was 14.5 city (short warm-up trips). Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaa !

Dont get me wrong the lbz 6spd is great, and It eally epends on how many miles areon your current truck, how much longer that one will last you your current financial situation etc, but realistically, if your current truck isnt that high milaged, will last you quite awhile long er(not beat up you know yhou did the maintenance), Id buy an exhaust, and chip for your current truck and keep it. You can get the same power as the lbz pry bump your milage a bit (w/the exhaust and chip if you drive right), and not go into debt. YOull lose at least a few grand jsut driving it off the lot take that few grand that you cant /never will recoop (buying a new truck) and put it into your old one. I bought mine new but the 6.5 gave up so for me it wasnt jsut up grading . I think buying a new truck in my case was better then buying a used one, but spending the money on a new one jsut to upgrade or get a few more mpg and ponies isnt worth it.

I love my 06 LBZ but I do not get 22 more like 18-19. I put the flashpac and blocker plate / figerstick which is suppose to increase milage. It did not change at all. The wisconsin winter does not help much though either!
All in All. I do LOVE MY TRUCK!

Hey, Bobaloo....I went from a '99 Silverado 5.3 4x4 ext cab to the LBZ, also! I agree with your reaction to the power! My best mpg is 20.7 @ 70-75 mph over the holidays on a run from Omaha to NE South Dakota. Have just over 8000 miles on it. Can't wait to see what I'll get for mileage once spring comes and we go back to summer blended fuel.

Right on, Duramax!!

I traded an '05 for an '07 because I wanted bucket seats and a 6 speed tranny (better mpg). I was running the Predator v2.02 @ 65 hp, stock tires, egr disabled, and a swiss cheese factory airbox. I got 18 mpg on country roads @ 60 mph and 20 mpg on the hiway @ 70-75 mph. I was a happy camper. I am currently running the EVO @ 60 hp, and have previuosly run the Predator @ 65 hp. I have 256/75/16's on the new truck. I get 16-17 on the same country roads and on the hiway so far. From a fuel economy standpoint and my wallet, I wish I would have kept the '05. Even from a power standpoint the '05 feels equal to the '07. From a warranty and comfort standpoint, I am glad I got the '07. If the fuel economy improves, I will be tickled to death and never look back again. I've only got about 8k on the truck so far, so I do think mpg will improve some. BTW, I got my two best mpg tankfulls on ULSD. (17.2 and 17.5) I got 17.1 once on LSD, everything else has been in the 15's and 16's.
Bottom line is you can't really go wrong with either truck, although your mpg seem awfully low. I'd take either and be happy. But that's just me.

This is my first diesel truck so I cant compare to the lly but I can tell you that I did test drive a 06 lly and hated the fan noise so I bought the LBZ. I love my truck I have put well over 19000 miles on it since Aug 06 and not a single problem to speak of I am not really sure of the mileage completely stock since I put my wheels and tires on 1 month after i bought the truck but with my superchips I get 21mpg @65 hwy cruising 19.5 @70-75 and 16.5 around town I dont rag my truck out but I do some spirited driving around town sometimes so there is definatly room for improvement if I wanted. This is by far the most comfortable truck I have ever ridden in ( I used to think moms King Ranch F-250 was nice  ha) and will never go back to a gas motor.

My truck has only 1,100 miles on it, and the best I've gotten (according to DIC is 16.3). This is a mixture of 50/50 driving and an empty bed. Also, I drive very easy and haven't been past 75 with the truck.

Yeah, I once remember thinking I was going to get an LBZ for the increased mileage, then reality set in after the 3rd or 4th tank of diesel. While some folks on here claim 18+, I wouldn't count on it, so if you want to get a new LBZ, get it for other reasons, as it seems to be a real crap shoot whether you'll get one with great MPG or just ok MPG, which is where I am at.

I bought my truck cause i likes it and for what i use it for .Thats the price to pay for towing.Knowing the millage will decrease when towing no matter what vehicle used.I dont complain about the millage as long as the truck does its job .My truck to me is only a tool for play and tow & pleasure use also.

Some are and some are not.

I've had both as well. My 04.5 LLY was giving me a solid 19 mpg, Hypertech level 3 tuned.

I'm at 3000 miles and havent gotten anything over 13 mpg so far. Normal is 12 and some change. I dont know what all the hype is about for the 6 speed. And I would like to know how all of you are getting in the low 20's. Hell, I'd be happy with 14 at this point.

My LBZ got crappy MPG when new but now at almost 9000 miles it has gotten much better but the 05 LLY did get a little better MPG. I averaged 16.5 with the LLY mixed driving and about 16 with the LBZ. I traded the LLY because it ran hot (never overheated) and I do not tow yet but plan on it. So when gm offered 0% I said goodbye to the potential over heater and got the LBZ. Much better on power. My opinion is you will love the LBZ-quiet-smooth-no issues yet. It's a matter of wether you want to take a hit financially on the LLY you have.
