Just bought another 6.5 a 96 k2500 161k miles runs really good clean truck leaks a bit tho seems like its coming from valve covers is it posible there is a crack or something that would cause a lot of oil to leak but still run great also it takes about 10 seconds to crank.whats the process in dealing with this

Valve cover gasket failure for the oil leaks
Long crank time= start with a fuel and air filter change, go through the glow plug system ( change glows if you do not know the history).
perform a lift pump test ( listed in the 6.5L FAQ)
Individually load test the batteries
Go through all grounds

The lift pump test is definitely important for sure. The engine can run on a inoperative lift pump leaving the injection pump to pull fuel from the tank on its own.You should hear the lift pump purr on the chassis under the driver side door while in RUN mode.

If you have plenty of fuel and glow plugs are working properly the next thing to check is Crankshaft Position Sensor. Use AC Delco only. A bad sensor tends to delay cranking cold or hot by about 10 seconds it seems.

Yes lift pump is operational I actually have another 6.5 that the lift pump isnt operating and it starts up fairly quick this new truck is maybe in the 8 to 10 second range almost to the point you're not sure it's going to start

The old crank sensor can be a bugger to get out but if you have trouble getting it out,try putting a sheet metal screw through the middle of it and clamp on a good pair of vise grips and use a small pry bar to wedge it out under the vise grip.Just a suggestion if you run into problems getting it out.
