Hello, this is my first post so bear with me if i mess up. I am a gearhead with lots of experience with gas motors but I have had a long time love for diesels. I finally bought one a 95 Dodge 3500 5 speed. I absoulutly love the truck and especially the Cummins diesel engine. The truck has 297k on it now and it has begun to make strange noises for a couple of months now and is only intensifing. I heard that the lift pump will make a "tinging" noise almost like lightly tapping on glass. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to make it stop. I have even considerd buying a complete drop in but being young and trying to make it on my own I don't have a lot of money so you guys are my last hope. The noise is most audible if i stand on the drivers side as if to open the door. I also noticed a lopy idle it sounds almost like one hole is not hitting as hard as the others. I have started to lose power, not very much but it is noticeable. For the record a few months ago I had the check valve in the lift pump go bad so it has a fairly new lift pump. As I said before I do not have much money so I bought the cheapest pump that I could find. I am desperate, please help me!!:D

Dan go to dieseltruckresource.com This is a GM site, not to say that someone couldn't help you. If you just put a lift pump on, take it off take it back & make them give you another one. I don't think the nLP is your problem though.

How can you hear anything in that 12v :D

Sounds like a fuel issue. Try the simple things first like filter and check fuel pressure to isolate if still lift pump issue.

Run a decent amount of additive (good stuff) and see if it quiets down the ticking, might be a injector gone bad. That's after you check FP.

Other than that there are a couple Cummins guys here maybe they will help out or try the Turbo Diesel Register. Ask for Hoot he's now a resident Cummins know it all. :D
