I just bought a 2004 Chevrolet 2500HD with 45,000 miles on it. It has an aftermarket exhuast without a cat, K&N air filter, and a predator programmer set on 65 HP. My question is this...I've heard and read that you should not tow with a programmer because it will shorten the life of you engine & tranny, and that a tuner is really just for MPG's and blowing smoke all over the rice burners! Is this true? Also will it cause any problems to the motor and tranny if I set the programmer back to stock, but leave the exhuast, and air filter?

Welcome to your latest addiction! This site has plenty of information reguarding all of your questions, you'll find the search function to be your best friend.

You can reset the tuner back to stock if you'd like, but you'll be fine towing with a 65HP tune. If you do not have any gauges, then I'd invest in those so you can see where you're running with that tune b/c the EGT's will be higher. If you feel unsafe towing w/o any gauges I'd reset it back to stock then. Reseting the programmer back to stock will not hurt either the enginer or the tranny.
