Had some overheating problems with my 92 6.5 and it was talked about in another thread which you may or may not have seen

but here’s my latest confusing issue

I replaced the thermostat with a genuine gm ac delco 190 degree unit but now the truck is not getting up to temp. It will not warm up past 140f for some reason. I went for 50 mile round trip half was hw doing 60 mph other half was hilly back roads and it will not get up to temp. Faulty thermostat? Faulty temp sensor? Heat is not blowing as hot either so I think the gauge is reading somewhat accurately.

thanks in advance

Hey guys. I’m so confused.

I still can’t get my 6.5 up to temp. I’ve tried everything. And it’s so confusing because I went from Having a truck that would overheat, to a truck I can’t get to warm up! & just by replacing a bad thermostat with the best thermostat for the 6.5. I also replaced the CTS to no avail.

I can drive around and the highest I can get the temps at thermostat housing is 180F. At the CTS on drivers side aprox 150-160F.

it’s almost like the thermostat is stuck open but I’ve pulled it multiple times, boiled it in water and it starts to crack at 190F like it should.

gauge reads 140F max and it will not go above that. I even tried to block off the rad with paper. Heat is blowing hot but not as hot as normally when it’s up to temp.

I also tried removing the rubber from a spare rad cap so pressure would vent to overflow to help remove any air in the system. I drove around like this and still nothing. I’m convinced it’s not air in the coolant system
