Need help identifying idler pulley

I have a 1992 C3500HD with the 6.5 turbo (non-A/C). One of my idler pulleys went bad and the belt keeps walking off. I have been to 3 auto parts stores and talked to multiple GMC dealerships and they either don't carry this pulley anymore or can't identify it. One guy said he thought it was part of a vacuum pump pulley, but there's nothing attached to mine.

It looks pretty simple, but it been impossible to find a new one anywhere. Any ideas where to find one or know if an easy way I can use another pulley/bracket?

IIRC, it is called AC delete pulley.

If there is an AC, it should be on the passenger side right behind the radiator.

Check the other pulley also like the crank pulley, alternator pulley, etc.
Pay special attention to the crank pulley and Harmonic Balancer behind it.
It looks like 1 unit but the pulley attach to the HB with 4 bolts.
Both are rubber parts that will go bad over time.

Is the pulley pressed on or is there a nut holding it on?
The GM part number for that mount is 07849495. None to be found.
I have several numbers for the pulley but am not yet sure which one it is.

Thanks for the replies. I tried looking up the AC delete pulley but the one that comes up doesn't really look like mine and it appears to have a slightly different bolt pattern. Possibly it's been updated, but the bolts wouldn't line up.

My pulley is pressed on to a shaft that runs into the aluminum mount with bearings that look to be needle bearings. The shaft runs through the housing to the back with a nut that holds the shaft in place. Then there is a metal cap/dust cover on the back of the mount covering the nut and rear of the shaft.

The closest thing I can come up with is a vacuum pump delete/dummy pulley, but my parts guy doesn't think it exists without a vacuum pump and I don't want to order the whole assembly and be wrong or order a vacuum pump that I don't need.

It seems like such a simple part, but its really giving me trouble.

That is where some 6.2's had a vacuum pump. They used the same setup on some of the first 6.5's when A/C was not ordered. Since there was no need for vacuum on the 6.5, GM made that part. Your pulley is different than the normal vac pump pulley which is smooth with no grooves for the belt. I'm sure that any 6.5 vac pump mount will work.
You will have to remove your pulley and press it on to the new vac pump mount.
The a/c delete pulley is for removing the a/c compressor and replacing with the delete pulley setup. In your case, no a/c brackets, so nothing to bolt it to. Different situation anyway.

Here are your parts - PULLEYS & BELTS-ACCESSORY DRIVE

you may be able to repair your assembly.

on my truck, when the idler pulley failed, I took it apart, and popped out the bearing and did a google search for the part number, and found a local replacement.

worth a try...

I figured it out if anyone has this issue in the future. Apparently its available at most auto parts stores as the full vacuum pump and its not too expensive. Dorman 904-803. I'll just have to take off the vacuum pump portion, pull off the old pulley and press it on the new assembly like Glagulator said.

Would have been nice if GM would have made a note that this Dorman part 904-803 is the only option since they discontinued the old GM part 07849435... Just glad its figured out now.

Thank you for all the replies.

If you remove the vacuum pump part you will have to seal the hole that is left.
The mount has lubricating oil in it. Probably a freeze plug and some RTV.
I was not able to find the mount or the pulley anywhere.
I'm guessing there were not many of those made.

You can stop the pump from pumping by dropping a thin 1" SS fender washer over the hole and bolting the pump back on.

if you are still looking i have something that will work for you.

After reading the complete thread, it is probably the same as what you already have.it is a good pump that was deleted from my 94.with the pump portion off it looks the same as your pic,but needing a plug as well.

I also have a pulled pump, intact, but non functional if ya want it, pm your address.

Just got everything installed and back on the road. Thanks for all the replies.

I decided to keep the pump completely intact for now rather than taking the top part off to get it back on the road quickly. Debating on hooking the pump up to my engine in the future. I heard it can increase the longevity of the engine and help with braking - Any truth to that?

On some older diesels(Mercedes) they used a vacuum system on brakes, and also on some part of the injection system, they also used a boost sensor to provide input to a fuel pod that would allow more fuel with more boost. I really over simplified that last part, barometric pressure also had a part in that.

It really has no place on our engines unless you use it for the climate control or boost wastegate on later models.
