My truck and everything else I own is covered, and I mean covered, in ashes and the sky is orange. I live down here by the beach 40 or so miles from the Grand Prix and Old fire that I guess last night became one big fire. Say a prayer for the residents and firefighters that these Santa Ana winds would calm down and they'd get a handle on these fires. I'd gripe about the ruined detail job on mine and my wifes trucks but it kind of pales next to people standing next to a smoking foundation that used to be their house. Edited by: MOTO HEAD

You should try being just below the fire. I left mine out last night hooked to my trailer since I was doing some work on it. The truck and trailer are really covered. But ash will wash off, I feel bad for the many folks who have lost their homes.

Looks as if it is blowing your way today. Yesterday was the worst for me in Orange County (ash, orange sky, etc). It is going to take a good rain to get rid of all this ash. They don't have a chance of slowing this thing down until the winds stop.

San Diego road closures are spotty but they affect I-8, I-15, I-805, and I-52. Ash? We joined you folks up north. My truck looks salt and pepper grey instead of pewter. Qualcomm Stadium has 1/4" of ash, and one dealership parking lot I saw looked like Beirut.

I think we're at 177 days without rain and counting....

Here in Huntington Beach it is pretty thick as the Santa Ana winds are blowing from teh NE right down on us. Got one of those 3M micro filters for the furnace and am keeping he fan on - seems to work.

If it gets into the 1,000's of dead trees up in Arrowhead and Big Bear the whole mountain will go like tinder. Good thing the winds are blowing it away from Arrowhead.

My buddy up there says they've got it shut down pretty up there and all points out looking for the torch(es).

I hope they catch whoever is setting these fires and hang them up by the Ba$$$.

Down in south county is not that bad..... Just a little ash on the truck..... This afternoon is alot worse than yesterday......

It doesn't look very good, too much acreage up in smoke and too little manpower....... God bless those who have lost their homes........

Here in Santee the fire started to encircle us. The Sheriffs came by and told us it was a voluntary evacuation, so I packed up my sand rail, trailer, quad and hooked up the truck. Towed that to my Mom's house while my sister drove my commuter car. My brother-in-law drove me back to get my Mustang and MB.

So far, it looks like my neighborhood lucked out, but I'm sticking around until all of the little fires are out. A lot of other neighborhoods got torched pretty bad. The story I've heard is that someone got lost in the fields near Barona Casino and shot off a flair to get someone to find them. 10,000 acres went up before anyone even knew...

So they're saying the fire up North was caused by arson?? One of my neighbors is in the FD and his wife was saying that the word going around among the firefighters is suspected terrorism, but she's not a reliable source.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone!

I am on my way to Temecula from New Mexico tomorrow - can anyone tell me if the fires are west of there? I don't have a real sense of California, and sure don't want to put the horses in trouble, much less create more work for an overloaded system. I'll be using I-10 to 79 South. Thanks!!!

I sure feel bad for everyone who is affected - hard to even figure out what to say.

The main throughfare closures have been the 15 and 215. You'll be South of the closures and fire on the 10. Edited by: MOTO HEAD

HT,

The I-10 is open right now....... well so says channel 7 news... The only highways closed near your path of travel are 330 and 18.....

and even those shouldn't affect your drive.....

I recommend that you go to the CHP website at http://cad.chp.ca.gov/ for the most current traffic report....Edited by: Blinky

Alan....From my backyard last night I could see flames on the hill side. I guess being south of the 210 has been an advantage the last two years. Can't see anything burning up there tonight. The super scooper aircraft really help this morning. The were flying overhead every 5 minutes or so pulling water from Pudingstone reservoir.
