It's like my truck has access to the internet, is reading the FAQs, and is running it like a playbook.

I still haven't figured out the full throttle clipping. Now I'm getting oil spotting on the driveway. I'm a about a half a quart down but that's not unusual for me after a refill; I don't try too hard to squeeze every last drop out of the containers. The oil isn't coming from the filter or the drain plug. It's coming off all along the bottom edge of the skid plate. I looked at the oil cooler through the grill and both connections at the cooler are dry. I'll pull the skidplate tomorrow.

This evening though I'm curious where most folks have their oil lines fail.

Also, is there a source to purchase JUST the lines to replace the factory lines that would be a plug and play affair? I'd rather not needlessly replace the cooler.

OMG, thanks for the chuckle; I've suspected the same thing about mine from time to time....:D

Mine have not (yet), although my splash plate has been oil-soaked for years... You mean it's not supposed to be??? ;)

After swappin' motors on my truck I had one fail. I had just installed the lines in the block and was thinkin' to myself, "Man that's not a really good setup". Started the truck, looked into the engine bay and saw the line "pop" out. From the time it took me to reach thru the door and shut it off, it was empty. So now I have my lines all "jimmy hee-hawed" into the block. I've meant to properly repair but never got around to it. From what I'm told, that is where most motors fail, when they "pop" out of the block.

Yeah, mine too. The other day when I walked into the garage I could of swore I heard the sub talking to the impala. It was something like "oh yeah, whatch this one." That's when it decided not to start. Thanks for laugh. I needed one.

Dan, plenty of threads out there about the stupid oil cooler lines. They fail down a ways from the cooler, near the skid plate, where the transition from rigid aluminum to rubber occurs. Factory lines are plug-and-play, i redid mine and put new o-rings and spring clips (retaining spring) in the engine block adapters, so far the areas I di*cked with are dry (now my filter adapter is class 2 leak). Good luck!

Well Major, is your password classified or have you leaked it out?

The factory lines usually leak at the crimp connections where the rubber hose is crimped to the aluminum line, they can leak at either end. It really don't matter which end is leaking they are junk to begin with, I would'nt waste the money or time replacing with Factory parts. Go with stainless steel braided lines. If you can find the adapters to transition to the stainless lines at the oil cooler you can retain the original cooler[you need to wind up with NPT pipe thread at the cooler], but good luck finding them.
You can get a good price on a new cooler from "Bulk parts" online and have a set of stainless lines made to fit at your local hydraulic hose shop. I will find the link to bulk parts for the oil cooler and post it in this thread. You can save probably 75.00-100.00 over the price of a kit that are sold by some of the online vendors.

Here is the link to the oil cooler.

Dan, that "full throttle clipping" you mentioned- what's the boost pressure when this happens? Also, what's the fuel pressure doing while this happens?

I don't let it get above 9 psi and generally it's closer to 6 psi. It isn't that it shuts down or reduces power with an associated reduction of boost and an SES. It just stumbles like the IP is getting air in the line. Right, now my opinion - worthless as it's not supported by fact - is that my fuel pickup is leaking. This truck sat for 3 years in an unheated garage in Federal Way Washington (pre-fuel cap gutting mind you). I'm thinking it's picked up corrosion on the pickup.

I still haven't found any suitable clear line to put on the input and output of the IP but when I do and have a day off, I'll be putting it on a lift and working my way from front to back looking at all fuel issues. I've built a t and external gauge to evaluate the LP on a starting issue that turned out to be GPs. I'll be strapping that on as well.

you don't need any special clear tube. just get a couple feet of clear hose from your local hardware store and connect it to the bleeder valve. With truck running, open the valve and catch fuel in a clean container. Chances are, you're going to see air bubbles in the line.

The cheap line from the hardware store will cloud up if fuel is left in it. Use it only for testing.

you can also get oil out of a leaking oil pressure sending unit at the back of the top of the block behind the glow plug controller. (or did they move it later on?)

True - but woud not that, of necessity, be spotting under the rear of the engine, rather than under the skid plate at the front of the truck?

my misunderstanding i thought it was coming down to the back of the trans transfercase. thats what happens when you drive oldies like me. you assume the skidplate is at the transfercase. i'll just go back to the 80s.

OK, SSDiesel sells oil lines. Anyone know anything about them? Looks pretty much stock. For 1/3 the price of a DSG system with a cooler I don't need, I could put these in and then built a set out of stainless at a later date. I remind you all that, for me, it's a running truck or my FXSTDI and it's a wee bit cold for the Deuce these days. No girlie-man taunts, please.

Yep, it's a bit chilly these days to crawl on it at 5 AM.
