Update

Figured I post an update. The brakes and tires were getting tired so I decided to put it on the lift and check it out.

Picked up a set of Factory Service Manuals

Van on Lift

Up in the air. Dang these things are tall!

Brakes are replaced, fluid flushed, waiting for tires to be checked out. The replacements I bought didn't hold air overnight.

The good news is, that after doing some more measuring we plan to extend the van frame and use it!

Next step today is replacing the pitman arm, idler arm and idler arm mount. What an involved task!

My dad's got it all cleaned up and looking good!

Random thoughts. Your Express van is probably a 9800 lb chassis.
Pros Under 10,000 lb commercial vehicle threshold. Electrics are all in and working.
Cons 78" wide single rear wheels. 6,000 lb rear axle, kind of light and narrow for a car hauler. Duramax Pickups have more torque and Allison transmission.
The P30 is probably a 12,000 lb chassis and wider wheel base with dual rear tires
