Hey guys new to the forum . I have a crazy question . Just purchased a 2003 c5500 duramax .. pull the hood forward and discovered the Motor has to oil filler caps .
one on top and one right center side ..
Can anyone explain this ?

It does seem strange, but I remove both when changing oil so the engine drains/fills better.

Hi Shane, I noticed the same thing on my 2005 C5500. I'm going to change the oil (the vehicle is new to me) and wondered if I can use either location to fill the oil. The front one is a bit easier to get to with a funnel.

Just a guess. The 6.6 was also used in the Express vans. Filling it via the side fill would probably be impossible, so the vans need one up top.

I've mastered the art of topping off my LLY with quart bottles via the side fill, and not spilling any, not using a funnel. It can be done! lol
