This thread is old but still appropriate. We had C Rats when I was on active duty. Just like the old WW2 stuff. The only thing good was a can of cookies. When we loaded these C Rations as part of our ships combat cargo loading we had to put a Marine on watch over the scuttle leading down into the hold where these were stored. Sailors would go into the hold, open the rations and eat the cookies otherwise. Now I hear people complain about the current MRE's. These things are like good home cooking compared to the old C's.
