Back off the fuel filter and check the O-ring.

Wow, I logged on the ask about this question as it happened to me yesterday for the first time. I changed my fuel filter a couple of weeks ago but nothing else has ben done to the engine.

If this was a filter o-ring problem would I see a leaking filter????

OK, after much reading: This is from a forum member and I feel best explains the problem. I also understand the housing falls under the 100k engine warranty.

The problem your having with the fuel system is that the fuel filter/heater housing unit, is the seal inside the housing is cracked and your sucking air. the seal can't be replaced ,the entire unit must be replaced. Also understand that this unit comes assembled with a "new" fuel filter, that can also be a problem ,if the filter is one of the older filters that had a problem with falling apart inside and restricting the fuel ,you might have another problem down the road. You should find rust & water in the filter if it does't stop there it is in your injectors. Any time the injectors get "loaded" with **** your filter failed.GM has had a fuel filter recall the filters failed, allowing **** to get by and power los due to the filter falling apart and restricting the flow. As far as injector failers, Bosch screwed up in manufacuring that is why GM had a recall and extented warrentees on tha injectors. So.. if your not holding prime in the fuel filter, check the housing unit, by the way, this problem does't throw a code!, secondly make sure your buying the new fuel filter replacement, they do have a new design on the market, if your buying the old design or bargain filters to save money, your only screwing your self.

No, it is under vacuum, not pressure.

I have been having this loss of prime on my 01 lb7. It only happed when it was very cold and it was very interminent. I just had the dealer change the fuel filter while they were doing some other work. They told me that the filter was crushed alittle on the bottom side from being installed wrong. So far it hasnt happed since the filter change, but its only been 2 weeks and its been cold as hell. Cleve
