I am looking for a No Drone (single or dual system) for my 2003 Dmax.

Many Diesel product specialists have told that there are many systems that provide great sounds and performance, but they also are heavy droners at Hwy speeds.

I pull a 8,000lb 5th almost 75% of the time and make several long trips cruising at 60 - 70 mph.

I'm not looking for 1/4 mile performance systems but would like to have a few extra hp & torque for pulling at a steady 2000rpm's

Thanks for your feedback !!!

Banks 4" Monster exhaust or the MBRP exhaust. I have the Banks and I can tell you, you will not hear the exhaust over the engine. If your pushin' it hard you may hear it some, but for all intents and purposes it's quiet. On a scale of 1 - 10 and stock is a 5, then the Banks is a 5.5. No experience with the MBRP, but it gets good reviews also. Even if you get one of these and they are still not quiet enough you can add a resonator to the system which will mute the system down even more. I think MBRP even carries the resonators. One last thing, my wife doesn't complain at all about the Banks exhaust being loud....do you need anymore testimony than that? :D Oh and :welcome:

The TTS system sounds pretty good. It has about the biggest muffler out of all the systems.

Thanks JP for the feedback & welcome.

I haven't heard a Banks system yet, but several well know local Diesel specialists have warned me about the loud drone that MBRP system makes on the LB7, especialy when pulling a 5th.

These same Diesel locations did not suggest the addition of a resonator to the MBRP.

Does your combo pull hills in 5th ??

We recently pulled the California Grape Vine at 60mph, and the truck was in and out of 5th all the way. Didn't get hot, but would be nice to have the extra power to do the pull in 5th all the way.

I could be wrong, but I don't think an exhaust will help you stay in 5th.
What HP level are you using with the superchip while towing?
I would suggest you get an EGT gauge if your towing with a tune. EGT's can get real high just before a down shift.
Lock out overdrive, set the cruise and enjoy the ride.

Yea...I know, I'm getting OT.

The Corsa dyno results show a 9hp & 20ft lb increase for a 2001 LB7, that may be the extra that makes the difference ??

My current combo is PowerChips at Stage 1 (50hp & 90ft lbs) and the AFE cold air system ( 5hp & 13 ft lbs)

The changes so far have changed the truck in a huge way, currently pulls in 5th up to medium/large hills. (5% grade)

Should the exhaust addition give me both extra ft lbs & reduced egt's ??

Don't go with the MBRP muffler, it drones like crazy... I've had it on my exhaust in several different applications, including: dual 4" stacks, dual 5" stacks and even completely stock exhaust expect swapping the stock muffler with the MBRP muffler. No matter the configuration the highway drone was very bad.

I pull my 5ver to West Virginia and back, while those aren't Rocky-mountain tall grades they are purty steep and long and the noise comes from the engine downshifting out of 5th, not the exhaust....which by the way the downshifting is rare since adding the Banks Stinger Kit. Also, I have found that quiet is a relative term. If you are talking to a guy that runs a straight pipe and that ain't loud enough, then to him a straight pipe is quiet. For me quiet is stock...period. ANything else is gonna be a bit louder, but some drone like crazy and the Banks system isn't one of them. As a matter of fact, if my truck is idling and you stand outside by the exhaust tip, you can not hear the exhaust. However, if you push down on the loud pedal you'll hear it....outside that is. Anyways, like I said, Banks is quiet enough that the Mrs. doesn't complain, but if you want it bone stock quiet you might have to add a resonator ,and that would be for any exhaust system in my opinion.

HP gains from aftermarket intakes and exhausts are next to nothing unless your pushing 500HP or more.
With a flow thru muffler and a 4" exhaust you will see around 150-200 deg of EGT drop.

Add a resonator to the system with 4" muffler and drone gone!
