My friend has a 2001 1500 ex. Cab chevy with a 4 inch lift on it and his steering went out, he tried changing the fluid because it smelt burnt and didn't fix anything so he got a new pump and it still feels like the tires are against a curb! Any suggestions or other stuff to try? Thanks

Id lift or jack it up and turn the steering wheel back and forth with the truck running and not running. Then turn the actual tire back and forth by hand and see if you can feel a "stiff" section. A gear in the gear box could be missing a tooth or worn down. If he has a lift or bigger tires the steering will have significant strain. Check all the tie rod ends and ball joint to make sure there tight and not bent. Make sure the lines arent kinked anywhere as well. Try changing the fluid again to get some of the old stuff out of the gear box.
