Lets get a poll going. How many of you have have your LML leave you stranded or has it been trouble-free?

No significant problems in ~9500 total miles. Had the P0299 code about 7K miles ago but the dealer did the reflash in about 20 minutes. Not a single problem since then. DEF is fine....get the ~1k mile warning, fill with Peak brand Blue DEF, no drama. Fit an finish is much better than past years...no squeaks or rattles on or off road. Easy oil change. Still ~18.5 mpg with mixed driving empty....~12 mpg when loaded towing ~10k. Towing beast when loaded....fast as hell when empty. VERY happy with the truck. Not sure about the build date but it's a pre-'11...bought it in December '10.

I have a 2014 Silverado 3500 Dually with 139k miles on it. It is bone stock, the only issue I have had is a turbo sensor which was replaced under warranty. I pull 5th wheels, travel trailers, boats and goose neck trailers 3 times a week from Richmond, Va to Gulfport, Ms and every where in between. I generall run 72mph empty and 65mph towing. I get 18-19 mpg empty and 13-15 towing depending on how big the trailer. I change the oil and fuel filter when it tells me to which is about 7500 oil and once a year fuel. I replaced the air filter with a K&N. This is my first diesel truck and I still have my 1991 454 Dually. This is a great truck and I have talked with many wrecker owners with Duramax 's with 400k and no or few issues.

2012 LTZ crew cab with 111,000 kilometers.

Only problems I've had was the DEF....which is no longer part of the rig!!

Done the full delete, straight through 4" exhaust, Autocal tuned and using a Edge CTS to monitor the vitals everywhere I drive.

I've always had Japanese small rigs before (Landcruiser and Nissan Patrol), which are by far the most common 4x4s here in Australia.

I could NEVER go back to something so under-powered ever again. From now on I'm a Chev owner or I will walk!!!

I have 426,000 on mine. I have only had one issue at about 150,000. I had a skinned wire that left me stranded in yellowstone national park. It was the fuel pressure wire. It rubbed on the a/c compressor. It was a pain in the ass getting towed out. It took 9 hrs, 2 tow trucks, and 153 miles to a dealership. Commercial vehicles are not allowed in a national park. They have there own tow service that will tow you to the edge of the park. Then have a second tow truck has to take you to where you are going. The best part was onstar paid the tow bill.

Stock 2012 with 55K mi. There needs to be another option in the poll. My truck has never left me stranded but I wouldn't ever consider saying it has had minor issues or been trouble free. Quite the opposite... Everything has been covered under warranty but has been to the dealer more times than I like.

1) P205b - DEF tank replaced
2) Hard 6-5th downshift - TSB requiring TCM flash
3) Leaking right front diff seal twice
4) Leaking oil pan and oil pressure switch
5) 4x4 actuator went out
6) Loosing coolant - TSB to replace overflow tank

Still have a really noise oil pump and truck regens like a mofo every 150-200mi

I bought mine with 26,000 and it just hit 50,000. I have had three dealer trips, DEF tank heater, leaking drivers side front axle seal and leaking oil pan gasket.

Yes, I think it's safe to say the CP4 thing is overblown.

Before I just bought my 2016 LML I asked about it (CP4 issues) since I know the general manager at a large dealership with multiple Chevy/GMC locations. He said it might by 1% of the time an issue, and not nearly what the internet claimed. But we're talking between 0 and 100k plus miles, so that's a HUGE range.

I have a few vehicles and every one of them has some sort of 'big issue' that everyone needs to watch out for according to the forums. Reality is none of these vehicles will be 100% perfect over long periods of time and lots of miles.

You're right every vehicle has it's own "issues" that may or may not cause a problem. The problem with the CP4 thing is that there have obviously been failures, and when they happen it's a humongous bill. That's why I think their has been so much attention around it. I know if I had bought say a 2011 LML with 100K on it and drove it for six months and the CP4 went I would flip out!

I guess at the end of the day you just have to play the odds it won't happen to you if you really like the DuraMax platform. My 15 has been rock solid, but cripes it only has 15,xxx on it!

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner...

Even if its a 1% failure rate (which I dont believe it is) at $10k plus to repair is to high IMO.

CP3 failure rates are lower and didnt destroy the entire fuel system. Just replace pump if/when it goes bad. The WAY in which these CP4s fail is unacceptable.

I just went through a nightmare with my TCM. I have 43k on my 11 3500HD LML and truck went into limp mode. The dealer said it was a bad TCM and that the part was covered under the GM powertrain warranty. Got a call the next day from the dealer telling me that now GM was saying that the TCM is not part of the powertrain warranty and also that part was backordered for 3 months. It would have costed me $1100.00 but my after market warranty picked up all but $260 of the bill and the dealer did find another dealer that traded them for a TCM unit.

I am pretty sure the 2011 had some special coverage to extend the warranty on the TCM as it was and is a known issue.

Yeah, the dealer screwed you as the TCM is not part of the powertrain warranty but IS part of the emissions warranty. I'd be looking for my $260 back.

. For 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first:
‐ If the catalytic converter, vehicle powertrain control module, transmission control module or other onboard emissions diagnostic device, including emission related software, is found to be defective, GM will repair or replace it under the Federal Emission Control System Warranty.
