Well I have not quite pulled the trigger and bought the new "old" '06 with the LLY motor. Maybe I will buy it tomorrow if things look good. I talked to a tech at Banks and he confirmed that the particular LLY that I am looking at is a de-tuned LBZ and recommended using the "6-gun" tuner. The price is 3K installed. It seems as though I should just plan on an exhaust and re-map the computer and get the most bang for the buck. I would probably put some break in miles on the truck first.
I'm not sure of the best way to re-map or re-tune the computer to bring the LLY up to LBZ specs. Is there an easy inexpensive way to do this? Thanks,

pete

3000 grand is way too high. Look into to EFI live (you can get it from mcrat, he is a vender here) He can set you up with a starter tune. Anything from mild to wild (500hp wild).

For 3000 grand you can get a mildly built trans and EFI and run circles around the banks.

EFI Live is around 800 bucks
