I have been thinking a little about saying goodbye to my truck and getting into the classic car market. Before you guys beat me up to bad hear me out.:

When I bought my truck I was into camping and had a big fifth wheel trailer. Since the camping was seasonal I would put the truck in the garage for the winter and not drive it ,due to the heavy salt on the roads here in southern Vermont. I sold the fifth wheel, but was still excited about the truck and current Diesel hype.

The Diesel stayed garaged ( with a few ad-ons ) and I drove it less and less. Now I have a 2004 SLT with only 14,000 miles on it that I hardly ever use. I am around these trucks every day in my job and have kind of lost a little intrest in it.

I have wanted to get into the classic car market for a while. What do you guys think? Any one made the switch or have both??

I just sold my 70 Camaro this past year for the same reasons. It rarely got driven and mostly collected dust. Whatever type of car you get, it will most likely be parked in the winter just as your truck was. You will probably have a lot of fun with the car, but that too will eventually wear off and you will be back in the same boat. Do what ever makes you happy is the best for you.

If you buy smart, you will never loose money on a classic car, and probably make money.
Of all the old cars I've had, I've never lost a dime, but whenever I buy new or newer-used, I'm lucky to get half my money back in a few years.

But the best advice is to buy what you like.

That is another reason, being in the GMC truck business I can get another truck. It seems as though the values of classics just keeps increasing. I have close to 40k tied up in my truck.

I am sure I could find a decent classic for less than that....

I have both, truck and camper, and a stroker 'Vette. Don't want to get rid of either. Still enjoy campin' and hotroddin' and car shows. You want a classic....do your homework and look, look, look! Pick 'em apart. Seems 'tho like Barret/Jackson is doing everything they can to push the classic cars out of reach of the common man. Don't believe me? Check 'em out. Seen '68/'69 Z-28 Camaros goin' for $80-$140 THOUSAND!!! Sold mine, the one in my garage, for $1500 back in 1970. Not saying a deal isn't out there, just gotta look...EVERYWHERE.

Barrett Jackson is known as the "circus" in the car collector world. Most of the selling prices are quite a bit higher than you'd normally find. People get a little crazy there with all the free booze, I guess.

Barrett Jackson also has some of the highest quality cars out there. More specifically, most original.

I'd go whatever makes you happy. I had a 71 camaro ss clone and definitely wish I had that now as a 2nd driver/summer fun car. Plus it's always fun to tinker on those old cars.

Both would be my choice, and i wouldn't give up my dmax.
