New problem as of today. I turn left and I feel my ABS working, then my light goes on.
Turning right, all is normal. Hard braking while going straight no problem.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks.

Wheel speed sensor. Not sure if it would be the left sensor or right. With a scan tool you could figure it out.

Yeah. My wife's 2001 malibu would do that when turning right into the driveway. Pulled codes and it ended up being the left wheel speed sensor.

I had the same problem with mine. ABS would kick in on slow rolling stops, usually pulling into a parking lot or slowly pulling up to a light or stop sign.

I took it to my local shop and they hooked up the scan tool and took it for a drive. The problem they ran into was in the older trucks it would not register under 5 km/h (or something like that) and the problem was only happening under that speed. They also checked for voltage drops. They came to the conclusion that it was the pass side sensor and replaced it. GM also has a TSB about cleaning the sensors so they cleaned the drivers side. Nearly $1000 later all was good.....for about 6 months and then it started again. I didn't want to dish out anymore money so I decided to pull my ABS fuse. I learned to drive in slippery conditions long before ABS so I've never relied on it.

My wife has a 2003 Montana and she's had to have a rear speed sensor replaced 3 times under warranty. GM are apparently has some serious issues with ABS speed sensors.

OK-that ain't happening......$1000?

I will check into the cleaning of the sensor. Hope this will help.

If I pull the fuse, will the dash light stay on?

Thanks.

Check the connections, first - faulty connections give same symptoms as faulty sensor

Repeated sensor replacement would indicate bad connector or wiring

I don't remember the break down but between the new sensor and labour on one side and the cleaning on the other and all the "diagnostics" and taxes it was close the $1000.

If you pull the fuse, the light will stay on but that is easily remedied by a piece of black electrical tape. :)

or put a switch on it. I have one on mine and the only time I have the ABS on is on the highway, at which speed you don't have any trouble anyway, right?
Hmm that's an idea. I'm not real saavy on the whole switch thing. I read about guys adding switches to this and that but it's all sort of beyond me. I get scared when it comes to cutting wires. :)

Couldn't you remove the bulb from the gauge cluster?

If I can't get it working with cleaning the sensors......I'm going to pull the fuse, and pull the bulb. I think it would drive me nuts with the bright red ABS light on.........not that black electrical tape wouldn't work, but then the tape would then drive me nuts.

I pulled my abs fuse a couple days ago. If you know what you're doing, you can actually stop sooner without abs.

When most people need to stop in a hurry, they'll push as hard as they can on the brake pedal with both feet....hence the need for abs.

I suppose you could but I never really thought about it. The tap really doesn't bother me, it can hardly be seen. Whenever I get around to installing my gauges, I'll have a look while I'm crawling around under there.

Yea......Where I live, we have snow and ice for 5 months a year. This is how I grew up. I have owned several vehicles without ABS, so it won't be a problem adjusting to it.
