I read in some forms that some programmers remove (turn off and on) the EGR Fuction. Anyone know if this is true or not or even tried one out. Wondering if this would eliminate the need for blockers and sticks to add larger exhausts and to remove the cat. Also if the EGR is turned off it wouldn't need a blocker plate to keep the exhaust out the EGR would never open to allow it. Anyone??

McRat shut mine off with EFILive :D I would still run a blocker plate because at higher boost levels you can blow open the EGR valve.

In my case the EGR failed and we believe it was stuck open. I was getting the P0046C. Easier to shut it off then replace the EGR :D

As cheap and easy as it is to do....Block it.

reason for not blocking it is warrenty. If the controller , witch I need anyways, can keep it closed then I can just turn it back on with a flip of the switch for dealer days. Also if its really cold in the morning and i dont have time to wait I can just allow it to open for a quick warm up cycle and then turn it off once I am ready to drive.

Yeah I hear the LLY and LB7 had this function but just want to be 100% possitive the LBZ has this function too. Also anyone used this function without blocker plates or fingers and had success with no check lights when removing the cat?

I second what Kat said. The EGR can still blow open or if it fails then you won't know because you have disabled the codes. I don't think the EGR will really help your warmup cycles either. My '97 6.5 had an EGR it didn't warm up whatsoever. The high edle circuit is the best thing to help warmup times. I am planning on blocking mine. It could be removed it had to go to the dealer for someting major. Even if you didn't remove the blocker plate the only you are not causing your engine damage, you are saving its life. Its the environment you would be hurting, mechanically it is better to have the blocker plate in.

When you shut off the EGR via EFI live or PPE does it still cycle the thing at start up? I'd prefer if it just didnt throw the code and still cycled itself to make sure it would work if I ever wanted to go back to stock......and just use the blocker plate to keep it from pumping exhaust into my motor.

The first to do this (at my request) was Diablo with the 04.5-05 LLY. This tuner only defeats the diagnostic and does not cease the operation of the valve. The LBZ Predator does not alter EGR function or diagnostics last I checked.

EFI Live gets credit for locating the tables and providing the tools to control EGR function without blockers etc. This is something that I offer with all of my tuning setups...

If it only defeats the diagnostic then does it still open and close. How does it know when to if the computer is not reading it. will it still flutter open and closed with free flowing exhaust? It may still throw a code then if it still opens and closes?

Diablo only defeats the diagnostic on 04.5-05 LLY. Not the LBZ. The EGR still functions unless disabled via blocker plate or unplugging.

Our Newer Xcelerator tuners have EGR delete included in the software no code blockers needed...
EGR function defeat, or EGR diagnostic (DTC) defeat?
