Has any body hooked up the factory turbine brake, and what were the results like?

Just remember Pin 53 gets grounded to activate the brake circuit.. Sooo use the returning wire to Pin 53 as your ground for your light and pin 11 (which is only hot when the brake is working) as your hot (12v) supply. With the switch off there is no ground for the brake or light.. With it on you've got your ground for both. The switch I used had a Neon light inside so I replaced it with a Incandescent one.

Quick question:

If only wiring a switch with no light. I'd run one wire from pin 53 to switch, and the other wire from the switch to a ground?

Yes, you are correct. It does work in Normal mode. HOWEVER, the Medium Duty trucks didnt/don't have normal mode. The only have T/H mode. So,as you will see in the OP on the How to: I do reference the dependency on TCC not T/H mode.

I noticed all of these posts are form almost two years ago. Now that you have done this have you had any problems with your trucks, are there any draw backs ETC. I have the LBZ with 75000 miles and am looking into the future and getting a trailer for retirement and had some concern about braking on long hills.

There are no drawbacks. This is a factory option in the Medium Duty trucks.

If I could only do one mod to my truck I would be hard pressed to pick a better one than this. Just got back from a 500 mile weekend run with 16.5k truck/trailer and just left it on all the time. Five mile 6% grades without touching the brakes... It's cool.

Turbo Brakes

Had mine for a long time via EFI Live from Duramax Tuner in northern Illinois. Have 190,000 miles and was just told I have about 75% of my brakes left. I tow a fifth wheel and even punch in the Tow/Haul mode as I approach stops when not towing. Love it!!!:HiHi::HiHi::HiHi:

I think it's time I do this today. Off to see my Buddy at the Dealer - get a few pins..wire/solder I got. Supposedly I have something like this with my EFI Tuning, but I have NEVER felt it work. and I do pull a 12,500 5th Wheel.
This cannot hurt.

Cheers and thanx for sharing the info, Bballer 182..!
Search works like it always has.

C2 - Pin(s) 52/11: one for activatiion / one for visual signal. Seperately grounded is fine by me.

cheers

When you get it working you will have NO doubt it is functioning.

My advice is to mount the light temporarily or not at all.

I'm really starting to regret posting this DIY.

NO ONE READS

NO S*** it works sometimes w/out T/H engaged.... That's not the intended use and it will not yield a friendly driving experience. Do what you want. It's your truck.... Hopefully.

Hey bballer182,

I'm glad that you posted this originally. It was amazing to see the amount of patience that you have dealing with all of the crap that came of it!

Anyhoo I am having great results and still feel that this is the biggest bang-for-the-buck mod out there on these trucks.

Thank you again, sir.

Have to agree Bballer..."you're not driving a medium duty truck"...why the F would you want this feature active 100% of the time.? Wepons grade dumb.

This is a neat little thing that is ONLY truly "usefull" when PULLING HEAVY - running around smoking rice rockets is not exactly what one might call usefull (although i do admit doing that on occasion - cause the odd one truly requires it)

EFI TB will engage without using towhaul, you just gots to keep the rpms up above about 2000 rpms. Which means using manual shifting in order to keep them there rpms up, selecting drive will not work.
When you accelerate the TB kicks out, when you let off the throttle and your rpms are above 2000 rpms it’ll kick in.

The factory TB should work the same way when accelerating.

bbballer turn off your TB switch then it will not engage, if it doesn’t then there’s something going on with the wiring or switch.
