I'd like my new '06 Sierra to accept the transmitter signal from my '05 Pontiac GXP key fobs.

I've found the procedure on how to program key fobs from the truck using certain sequences.

Does programming a key fob actually change anything in the key fob or does it just get the vehicle to recognize it in the BCM reciever? I don't want to screw up the key fobs so they don't work in the GXP. I just want them to work in both vehicles.

The GXP will only allow key fob programming using a Tech II scanner which would involve a trip to the dealer so I want to make 100% sure that the procedure does nothing to the key fob.

It does nothing to the fobs, the BCM learns the signal when depressing the buttons of the fob. Not all fobs will work though. Depends on model of vehicle and options. Dealer can tell by part # on the fobs. When reprogramming make sure no one around you is using the fobs for their vehicle or they may have access to your vehicle.

There are 2 part numbers in the 01 model year alone. It definitely won't work.
