It's basically gone on the drivers side. I've had 2 old Blazers here that I got just to pull the 6.2 out of and take the rest to the scrappers thinking that I would never have one. Now I could kick myself for not keeping some more parts from them.

I know what you mean. Non rotted tailgates are hard to come by to.

I'm just borrowing this thread to post how the tailgate goes back together.
Don't ask why I need this, and if anyone knows where all my pieces are, let me know. :bat:

Like how the spring #23 in image 3 is supposed to be positioned. I have a late 70's one here and the spring is different and wasn't mounted to compare.

Oh damn, was that your ziplock bag i threw out last week? Sorry brother. :hehe:

Seriously though....the "spring" in the bottom pic....is that for the key assembly in the TG? Pic is fuzzy & hard to tell.

Maybe i can find a better pic in my FSM for my truck....

Thanks, I found most of it, Bag here, bag there, hinge bolts here. latch rods in a box over there. Still have to find the window tracks lol.

Here's how I put it, but its wrong. The rod with the spring pulls up into a notch on the latch mechanism and jams it. Not what its supposed to do. Not even sure what its supposed to do. :confuzeld

hmmm, found an image that shows the spring installed as I did. Except it jams the opener.

Is that a manual crank TG window?

I can pull the panels off of my '90, but i'm pretty sure i never saw that spring in there a few weeks ago when i put it all back together....

Still at a loss on this. The rod pulls up in the mechanism and jams it from turning enough to open the latch's. I'd guess that its supposed to pull down with the latch and help spring it back. Tried the one from my spare gate, but no luck.
You can see from the pic that the rod slides in a notch on the latch like its supposed to, but that jams it up.

While I'm at it. Springs on the side cables. Where are your guys located. The GM schematic in post 23 shows them on the rear corner posts. LMC schematic shows them on the tailgate. My spare gate has them on the gate, wondering if there was different springs for locations.

Unmolested, this is where my (crusty & broken) cable springs are....

:HiHi:

Thanks, yours is just like how the dealer shows it, with little inserts for the spring to clip into. Different springs than mine, almost seems like the dealer shows it as a Sub cable and LMC has it right for a K5.

This helps, lets me know mine are correct on the tailgate. :thumb:

Glad i could help you out.

Just to update, a few days of searching found my answer. I have it together correctly. Its a safety mechanism that will only release the gate when the window is down. No window in, so no releasing.

From K5 forum
there is a Z shaped rod that is attached with a plastic bushing that is bolted to the tailgate on the driver side bottom with two bolts.when the glass slides down it pushes the Z bar down until it clears the slots in the center latch mechanism.the spring is hooked to the top part of the Zbar and through a little hole in the tailgate metal. hope that helps.look at the shadow drawing on page 44 LMC catalog the z bar plastic bushing is what bolt 27 and washer hold on.they show one bolt there are two bolts that hold the plastic bushing that holds the Z bar.they are at the bottom just under the access cover.
And to add, there is an adjustment on the mechanism tightening the rods, this explains why the bolt broke when I gave it a try. Thank gawd for spare parts.

From K5 forum
Yes the bolt is to take the slack out of the rods.the bolt is left hand thread.if your sure you want to mess with it,here goes with the tailgate down close the right and left latches on the tailgate.move the handle a little and you will see a line up hole in the latch.jamb a drill bit or small zip tie through the holes to keep them lined up loosen the left hand threaded bolt pull most of the slack out of both rods.tighten up bolt, pull handle and see if they both unlatch at the same time.you might have to mess around with it a bit.latch both latches again and pull the handle make sure they work before you put the panel back on.good luck.
I'll add this to FAQ later for K5 guys, lots if invaluable info in this whole thread.

Colour looks good.:thumb: Looks like the 02 Yammer R6 I used to have moons ago.

Are the internals different from the 'Burbs? (sounds like you're saying they are....)

Yes, there are slight differences. Like the burb motor is direct drive and the K5 uses a cable to drive the regulator.

So is it as much a PITA to remove your broken window motor on your K5 when the window is down, as it is on my 'Burb? :hehe:

Luckily i was @ work & happened to have a spare 7/16 wrench i could sacrifice to the welding Gods, lol!

that's probably the easiest thing to change its out in the open. Unfortunately, the cable drive adds another layer of problems.
